Welcome to the forum Kevin,

Does it sound mechanical or electrical?

Whereabouts under the bonnet does the noise come from? (Maybe try it again with someone listening and the bonnet up?)

Does it always happen when you open the door or does it happen if you just leave it ticking over?

If so, could it be the electric fan kicking in?

:)

On the Alfa 156 Selespeed the pump for the Selespeed Gearbox starts then the door is opened , I think the Pada does the same

Yep, when opening the door or switching on the ignition- it's the pump priming the gearbox hydraulics upto 60bar (if needed) so it's ready to pull the clutch in, and if necessary, select neutral on start-up.

Have you got a bee in your bonnet?
:)

 Just when you open the door?

How come these posts get a 'thanks' and my warm welcoming one doesn't?

Also when a member joins the forum and posts a question (which is presumably why they joined?) which then gets answered....Is it too difficult to come back and post a little message to confirm that the answers helped solve the problem?

Just a thought!?
