I’m going to take a look at a pre registered Mjet later this week, which I’ll buy if the deal looks OK.

It’s a Dynamic/Aircon – so I assume it will come with roof bars and aircon etc.

I’m just toying with the idea of having the Eleganza style 14” alloys fitted as an extra – more for looks than performance.

Before I do this, what are the alloys likely to ‘add’ in terms of performance??

Will the ride be harder but road holding/cornering better?

Will the mpg be affected??

Are any of the above affects noticeable in normal driving conditions – or just marginal so that it’s only really the appearance that’s improved as such?

Thanks,

If it comes on standard 14" steelies, the tyre size on the alloys will be identical so the only difference in performance you'll notice is from any weight saved. I think it'll be negligible personally :D

I didn't think the MJ came with aircon as standard (the Dynamic/Aircon I think is only available in the 1.2) so might be worth checking - it can be fitted as a cost option though....

Alloys will not produce any appreciable affect to any performance factors.
they will look nicer than steel wheels with plastic covers. However, if anyone who drives your car is in the habit of kerbing the wheels they will soon look tired and scruffy.

I had the standard steel wheels on my MJ when I first bought it but the car slid everywhere and the road noise was terrible (tried the eco tyres they fit as standard and also normal tyres) also the car was very bouncy.
Got a set of alloys+tyres from Fiat transformed the car less road noise grips better (especially in the wet) smoother ride and the MPG has gone up! would recommend the alloys 100% best thing I have bought for my MJ so far.

standard steel's tyres are 155/80/13
Alloy's tyres are 165/65/14

Just checked the Fiat website and the only Panda now available with 13" steel wheels appears to be the Active - all the Dynamics have 14" steels. Wonder if this is something that's changed recently?

Must have changed recently the spec probably from 57/08 spec examples
thanks for the update(y)

I think the website is wrong... I think they're still 13".

I have 13" alloys - I like the bounce!

You are right the MJ doesn't have aircon as standard, but its fairly common for dealers to order them in with aircon for pre-reg's because its a much sought after option.

Mine was like this, though I basically bought it new, they had it on order, so i got it within a week.

Thanks for all the replies folks - sounds like they might be worth going for if I can get them at a decent price (or thrown in:eek:)

Just one other thing, Ive been 'assured' the car has delivery miles only - what does that mean exactly in 'miles' terms??

Cheers all,

Well, mine was new and had 3 miles on it.

A pre-reg car could be slightly higher but not necessarily. I test drove a pre-reg with 4 miles on it and doubled the mileage on the test drive. Its really hard to tell though your car could have 10 miles or more on it, but you'd expect it to be low really wouldn't you if it was a new car. I guess sometimes dealers end up driving the car on the road so that would add to it.

My pre-reg had 7 miles on it when I picked it up (apparently it was 6 miles from the central depot to the showroom).

Thanks for that, see what you mean.

Just have to play it by ear I guess, and be prepared to walk away if it seems to have a few too many.

Its the salesmen though sometimes they do make you smile with all the spiel they use....
