I've just been to look at a year old Sedici which was for sale for £7699. They only offered me £5000 for my car! It's 21 days old, has 1400 miles on the clock and has a list price of £10480! I nearly laughed in their faces :(

What a liberty. I bet they'd sell it as an ex-demo for about £8k.

Perhaps the dealer has read about you car's issues on this forum???

In any case they are not mugs and will I suppose be suspicious of anyone trying to sell such a new vehicle. Good luck in any case and hope the Sedici is more reliable

Got to admire the brass neck haven't you? :D

Not my cup-of-tea but a year old Sedici for £7,699 sounds an absolute bargain.

Dealer will offer what he thinks he can get away with. Also, he will be looking at the margin he's making on the car being sold. if you have a car he thinks he can move off the forecourt quickly then you'll get more.

Only way to avoid nasty depreciation is time. Keep a car at least 3 years.

exactly, also as Scrogg insinuates, people are getting deals on new 100hp's for less than 8K -my dealer complained that he had a miserable profit on cars and the only reason they did Fiat was for the van division franchise. Of course no one works for nothing but there is an element of truth in his argument.

Perhaps you should change tack. If the car has a technical problem (not starting, I recall) and you do sell it they may not fix it and the next unlucky victim inherits the same lemon.

A client of mine had a Zafira that drank more oil than petrol and the dealer wasn't interested so he parked the car in the street outside his premises and put a big sign on the windscreen to inform people they had sold him a lemon. They fixed the car in the same week.

I think there is more Fiat in the Sedici than many people realise although it is made in the Suzuki plant. Are you talking about the red one at Cannock? Looks cool. Motorhouse will only ever give a crappy trade in as the sell their stuff on so cheaply. It's the cost to change that matters a Fiat dealer may well have had the Sedici up at £9450 and therefore offer a better price on the Panda. Shame you've not enjoyed the Panda surely the dealer can sort the starting glitch? If you want a 4x4 why not wait for the Multijet Panda 4x4 it'll be a cracker and a Fiat dealer will probably be more flexible with your trade in?

Welcome to the world of new car depreciation. I'm not taking the mick, but what figure were you expecting?

've decided to let the dealer try and fix the car and keep it and buy an old Range Rover or Frontera to go off road in.

If you're wanting to go offroad, I'd give the Frontera a miss unless it's really soft off-roading you'll be doing :) Range Rovers are plentiful and also don't discount the Discovery which is surprisingly competent, has loads of room inside and is pretty punchy in 300TDI or TD5 guise.

I've never done off rading before. I want something that'll cost no more than £500 quid that has decent ground clearance and hopefully low ratio gears. It's got to be mot'd and tax would be good too - any ideas?
