General Just been offered £5000 for my 21 day old Panda!

Just found one 1.5 miles away for £600 in the local paper - and from what they've said it's immaculate and they're collectors! Going to see it in half hour - i'll let you know how I get on.

:) i part exed my 55 plate eleganza with 15000 miles last august and got £4000 against my 100 hp pre reg...they wanted to give 3500, but i said no thanks. then they upped it to 4000, not bad, considering the alloys were scuffed and there was a ding on nearside rear wheel arch.

I just brought a Niva! It's a 1994 M-reg. They guy lived one minute away! I've paid £550 for it and it's immaculate - he's got a few and is an off road marshall. The car is amazing! :D

Here's a piccy

Great bit of kit and it will literally go anywhere!

Birmingham airport used to use one (don't know if they still do) because it was the only thing that could climb the massive sound barrier built up at the edge of the airport.

I've seen pictures on youtube of them rescuing various 'big brand off roaders'
They seem indestructable and I've read nothing but great reviews. The owner has wax oiled the whole of the bottom and filled the seals too. They've replaced the mechanical fan with an electric one and changed the mechanical injection to electronic. It's had loads of stuff added and has done less than 28000 miles. I've got all the old MOT's and it has gone mostly 1200 - 1500 miles per year!

Here's some piccys - one is of my baby Panda with the clear indicators! :slayer:

They are pretty good but I would have held out for the Range Rover. You will never beat one with air for off roading and the advantage of being a great on road car too. We have had a few now as well as a Freelander and Discovery but the Range Rover is the best by far. Even with road tyres our P38 has never been stuck. 4.6 V8 sounds great too :slayer:

This beats the Range Rover hands down - just look it up on youtube - there is a niva vs rivals and it features jeeps and a range rover and they set 4 or 5 tasks off road - only the Niva managed them. It's known as the Russian Range Rover.

Haha you use you tube as your buyers guide? The Niva might have been better than an RR in that vid but that would be down to the driver. Off roading is a serious skill. There are loads of vids of idiots in RRs looking stuck in a muddy field but their method of off roading is foot to the floor.

I am not saying the Niva is no good I think it is a great little car but they are in a different class. The Range Rover (P38 onwards) is unquestionably the best off roader in the world. Air suspension, 4 wheel traction control from 2001 onwards, high and low range auto box, fantastic V8 engine.....I could go on.

Let me know if you are doing any event down south and we will see if you can beat me :p

For the time this car was out it will trounce any Range Rover. It has the same sort of suspension and springs as the Range Rover hence the Russian Range Rover tag.

I am a complete novice in off roading and I wouldn't do anything serious until I learnt how to do things properly. Of course I don't use Youtube to govern my car buying choice I just like to see what they can be capable of. Knowledge is power! :D

The Range Rover is the best offroader in the world?! :ROFLMAO:

I'd take a Defender over a RR any day of the week if I was doing offroading! I might also be tempted by a Bowler Wildcat ;)

Chris

Back to the topic of part exchange value, I had same thing with my 57 plate Panda Multijet. I have been offered £5000 against a new Doblo at two different dealers, but thing they explained was that they would still offer same part ex. value when it is one year old even with average mileage. It is true that you loose most value as soon as you drive out of dealership.

On 4x4's I have owned both Lada Niva and Range Rover, both excellent off road, Lada would just nudge it slightly due to lighter weight and axle articulation though engine is poor compared with RR, though a diesel Discovery will trounce both, high torque of diesel engine best for serious off road work.

Hope you have fun with your Lada (it is based on a Fiat) and your Panda.

I'm sure you'll have tons of fun in the Lada. Looks like a right laugh. Kind of in the spirit of a SWB Lightweight V8 Landie.

Which is best depends on the type of offroading you want to do. RR will be costly to run compared to the Niva too. If RRs and LRs are so good then how come you don't see them all over the Aussie outback or climbing sand dunes in Oman? Some others such as the LandCruiser are better at some things (like not breaking down).

I agree that the ultimate off roader is the Defender - nobody can argue that. If I win the lottery I'm getting a Bowler Wildcat (although there is a new one based on the looks of the Range Rover Sport)

As I said I'm a complete novice apart from what i've studied on the subject so i'll be going to some meets to see how the professionals work!

It's about time Fiat created a decent rival to the Honda CR-V.

I've heard a lot of Niva owners drop the Fiat 2.0 DOHC engine into it to sort out the sluggish performance.
