General 100hp Top Speeds.

General 100hp Top Speeds.

Bad boy :nono:

I wouldn't rely on your speedo, you should confirm it by GPS or take note of the revs. By my reckoning 130mph would be 6200rpm in 6th.

And find an airfield.

As others have said, the indicated speed is probably quite a bit higher than actual speed, although the 115mph will be an average of several runs in multiple directions.

Best way to get an accurate reading is to find someone with a speed gun or a timing gate, eg Santa Pod :D

Hello i was wondering what sort of speeds people were getting from there 100hp's obvously not on the public high way,
as in stats they say its good for 115mph but iv had mine to 130mph:slayer: and didn't seem to be all it had.(y)

I'm sorry but why would anybody post this on a public forum?

Doing these sort of speeds is nothing to boast about and i very much doubt that you have a private test track to test the top speed.

Blimey, chill out everyone.

Im off to the nurburgring in a couple of weeks, and there are some de-restricted roads on the way there in Germany, its a great place to check your top speed. Unfortunatley not taking my panda, i have a mazda mx-3 v6 too.

Just take your tom tom. It has a gps speed readout. My mazda speedo is about 6mph out at 135mph indicated.

Will get the 100hp out there one day... (Ill have to talk my wife round!)

Going slightly off topic here, i've never tested my Panda's top speed out (it's only done 900ish miles) and besides, the Panda's about nippyness on b-roads/lanes/city driving.

My query is; if a speedo over reads my a few mph over, lets say 5mph at 70 indicated on the clock, (3.5% difference) does that mean that my odometer is effectively 3.5% out too, and my trip, mpg etc....?

answers on a postcard too....

If you choose to exceed the posted speed limit in safety, I have no problem with that in principle. The rozzers might take a different view though.

However...
as i said not on public high way track days at silver stone and snetterton race way.
chil out lol.
You won't get anywhere near top speed at either of those racetracks. You'd be lucky to hit 110.

There is only 1 racetrack that I know of where you can genuinely reach top speed in a road car, and it's not in the UK.

Does it matter?

Appreciate the car for what it does best and stop revving the nuts off it in 6th.

No, infact see if you can get 140 out of it, then hopefully you can get pulled by the rozzers and get locked up. One less idiot on the roads increasing my insurance premium..

Surely it depends on the car? I would have thought you could get the 100hp up to flat out on a few tracks here....

After all they get that Lacetti up to 90+ on the Top Gear circuit and that's not particularly long....

I've been to a couple of proving grounds with 2 mile runways and been unable to VMax any car I've owned (not tried the Panda yet) and I'm not sure any tracks in the UK have a 2 mile straight. A quick calculation suggests that to get from 0 to 130mph over 2 miles would take 55 seconds (uniform acceleration, etc) so if anyone can get it to the limiter in 6th in 55 seconds it should be doable on a runway :D

To a certain extent, yes, but I've yet to achieve it in anything. In fact you very rarely need top gear. Even at Rockingham I only achieved 110mph with 1100Kg and 133bhp before having to brake for the chicane. At Goodwood in an E46 M3 I managed just shy of 150, whereas at the Nordschleife that would easily reach its 160+ maximum.

As for the 100hp... It would be fun trying :)

No tracks in the UK have long enough straights to reach top speed really. The trouble is in a quicker car you may see 115mph but i don't think you'd manage it in a 100hp as getting the last 10miles an hour would take some distance.
