Have been toying with the idea of getting a 100hp and was not overly impressed with dealers so called deals and their general bullying tactics (Mangoletsi take a bow...) so have put off getting one until I can do a cash buy. I have been looking into mods that people do and the usual supsects occur (exhaust remap etc) but not seen anyone mention the laughing gas.

Does anyone know a decent nitrous fitter that I could contact when the time comes? I think this car would be even more of a riot. Opinions gratefully welcome of course.. I know the warranty etc would be an issue but from what I have read so far the 1.4 seems tough enough to take it.

So my list so far is the car obviously, then a ragazzon exhaust with sports cat, gsr filter, performance camshaft, uprated brakes and suspension and a remap and then the nitrous.

What do people think? A bit too "desperate"? Is the panda one of those "leave it as it is " cars? I hate the idea of it being a chavmobile!

Cheers!

Buy a faster car. Nitrous on a proper fast car makes sense, but on a low powered car it does not. While it may give big benefits, you'd need to use it all the time to keep up the faster progress it enables = expensive.

Faster car generally means bigger engine and all the associated running costs that go with that. What i like about the panda and the nitrous idea is the fact without it on I am paying low fuel tax etc then with it on it would be able to suprise much bigger machinery.

With all the above mods and nitrous my insurance is £260 fully comp. A mate of mine had nitrous on his otherwise useless nova but god did it shift. If I could justify ridiculous road tax and the ever increasing fuel costs I would buy something a lot bigger and quicker. But I have been there and done that and my wallet is still screaming from the pain!

AFAIK there aren't any remaps available for the 1.4 in the Panda currently?

I'm always amazed when people decide what mods they are going to carry out before they've even got the car!

Surely without driving it daily you have no real feel for what aspects of the car need improving (and surely mods should be for improvement not bragging rights?)

First get the car, drive it standard for a while and then decide. For me the car is great in it's standard form. It already surprises other drivers believe me! Sure I could make it go quicker, but I'm not going to jeapordise the warranty (why buy a new car otherwise?) and frankly, I don't think it needs it....It's never going to be a Cooper S is it?

I certainly see no reason to uprate the brakes (other than maybe for looks) as they are already very good.

And if high fuel costs are a concern, I doubt all your planned mods are going to help....This coupled with the 100hp's relatively low mpg (if driven with any oomph!)

Finally if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?....I find it incredible that the insurance is that low with all those mods.

Ok lecture over.... (y)

TBP, (i couldnt help but smile when I read your post. You sound like my dad!)

I am 27 9 years no claims. The quote I had was with all the above with RAC. Without the mods it was £175. I was quite suprised as well but I have it in black and white. Its probably due to where I live. Retirement central!

Why do you take me listing what mods and how I would spend my hard-earned as "bragging rights"? Surely thats your attitude not mine?!

High fuel costs are a concern. Otherwise I would be driving around in some 3 litre bmw. However its all relative. A big torquey motor uses it regardless of how you drive it(as my credit card can testify). If you have a small motor albeit modded, well if you start off with an approx 40mpg and lose some due to the above mods then you will still be better off.

Of course I wouldn't buy the panda and then drive it straight to get modded. I do understand where you are coming from in the whole getting used to it in a day to day environment. However it's encouraging to read other peoples posts about positive improvements minor mods make. I am just intrigued about going one step further. Why not? People to do it to a lot less worthy machinery.

Upgrading brakes is generally a good idea if you up the power. Ok it's only 100 brake and with some mods you may see 125, it's a good feeling knowing you have serious anchors and I have given the panda a damned good thrash and the brakes are not bad but certainly not the best I have encountered. It's a cheap car and so everything is done to a price point.

I'm not fussed how you spend your money, I've always thought big lists of intended mods to be a bit ....So yeah maybe it is my attitude / perception....

Having put 7.5K on mine, achieving a regular 40mpg means you have to drive it like a saint....

Of course I wouldn't buy the panda and then drive it straight to get modded....
Yet you're asking about nitrous fitters and that's your last mod?

Ah well what do I know?....All I know is I'm riding around in mine and you're thinking about what you're gonna do to yours one day....:nerner:

7.5k? Thats it? Your responses are based on 7.5k of ownership?! LMAO.

I feel warm and fuzzy knowing you are not fussed about how I spend my money!

Im sure 40mpg will not be difficult to achieve on my daily commute. If my other halfs 1.4 clio can achieve 50-60mpg I can't see the problem. Maybe you need to change your shoes.

Yes I was asking about nitrous as that was my question from the off..."does anyone know of one (and this is the important bit TBP...) when the time comes". That means when I decide that I want to do it. Not neccessarily straight after picking it up.

What do you know? I'm not sure either. You are riding around in yours. Well done! Err...I think thats about it really? Unless I am missing some point?

I think 7.5K is more than enough to get an idea of the economy I usually get....I would have based it on 10K but I have only done 7.5....

I didn't say it wasn't possible to get 40mpg....But maybe when you get yours, you'll realise that because it's so much fun, it's not that easy to restrain yourself....That was my point....

Only the point that I drive mine every day so I may have a little bit more experience of which areas of the car I think the car needs improving....?

After all that was my point all along....

Anyway, enjoy the car when you get it....Let us know what mods you make and what mpg you get and we'll compare notes....
