Anyone been sad enough to work out how much more juice the 100HP sups with the air con on?

Blimey I think i'll give up driving the day I resort to something like that:D:D

lol, i havent but i think it uses a fair bit more! i do a reasonable amount of miles (mines on 15k after 11 months) and have worked out how much im spending a week on fuel a few times now, but i only put aircon on as and when - very hot or to demist usually, i'd have thought running it all the time would dent the mpg nicely.

Don't worry, the bill you'll get for fixing the AC due to lack of use will far outweigh any fuel saving :)

Now you come to mention it

Soon after I got it last summer, had the climate control on for a hot day on the journey back from work (25 miles) and got about 41mpg. Day or two later when the temperature had cooled down a bit, didn't have the CC on at all for the same journey and it gave a bit over 42mpg.

Being new to this climate control lark, when you use it in winter is it just really a bog standard heater or would it still be using more petrol than if you were just using a car with a standard heater:confused:

Haven't really done any conclusive tests but I noticed in the recent hot weather we had (before the sleet and snow of the last few days! :ROFLMAO: ) that the a/c seemed to be cycled off under WOT. I also tried turning it off and performance and economy remained unaffected so I concluded that it seems to be intelligently switched on and off by the climate control.

Not sure if it's different for the cars which have manual air con....

does anyone know what happens when you turn the AC on and turn the knob all the way to hot? is the AC then working and how different is it from just using hot air without AC

I did one tank with it off, and achieved exactly 1 mpg better than I saw with it on. So the a/c stays on all the time now.

oh and does AC on affect performance of the engine? my 1.2 seem to slow down when AC is on, but i am not sure

Technically yes as it is the engine which is driving the A/C compressor. However, some cars will cycle the compressor in and out, eg the Scooby will disengage the compressor under WOT, so when you ask for power it is available. I think the 100bhp does this, but I need to do a bit more testing when (if!) the weather warms up! :ROFLMAO:
