Just about to change the oil in the Multijet - but thought I'd just check with you guys to be sure I get it done right.

This is how I planned it;

1. Warm engine.
2. Remove sump plug.
3. Remove oil filter.
4. Wait around for oil to drain.
5. Refit oil filter.
6. refit sump plug.
7. Fill to correct level with the Fully Synthetic 5w 40.
8. Run for a minute or two and double check the oil level.

Is this all thats required on the multijet - or am i missing some hidden Fiat technical widget / thingy that also needs tweeking / changing / hitting with a hammer ? lol.

Do the oil filter first as dirty oil will enter sump if you don`t (OK as you say, but some have put the sump plug back in and then done the filter)and be careful to get the filter sealing O ring into the correct groove. You will notice it seals radially and not by being squashed by the tightening. (oil the new seal on fitting)

You need a 27mm socket.

Good Luck (y)

A little tip, once the filter is a bit loose, wrap it in an old supermarket carrier bag so that when it comes off the old oil drips into the bag not onto your engine, path etc.

A couple of things...
The filter cover (the plastic filter holder, not the steel shield) has a small drain slot partway down the thread - in line with the 'drain' arrow on top of the cover, useful for draining the last of the oil out of the housing, or spilling it on the floor if you're not paying attention:rolleyes:
IIRC the handbook says the oil should be checked a few mins after switching off, i.e. if you do it straight away then you get a low reading on the dipstick.

I am just about to do this, will any good quality 5/40 Fully Synthetic Oil be OK ?

Thanks

I use Mobil 1, 0W40 in mine and its smoother sounding in the tappet dept and oil light out quicker in cold weather.

(That`s not a recommendation from me, just saying what I do personally)

I asked the Service Manager who said it was the best oil available and there would be no warranty issues, so I changed to it at around 800 miles.

Now change it every 6 months/6, 000 miles. Overkill? sure is, but its the sweetest sounding engine and the oil pressure light goes out almost instantly, even in the minus 9C we had around here last week.
