Does anyone know if the Roof rails are easy to remove and what's left on the roof (screw holes, plate) when removed? If there is anything exposed can you get anything to cover it.

Here you go :)

Non roof rail Pandas have black cross headed screws where the rail bolts on so I guess thats what you'd be left with if you remove them? Let me know if you need a pic.

Technically, I think you'd actually be left with a threaded hole when you remove the bolt holding the roof rail on. This hole should be blind (I sincerely hope!) in other words closed at the bottom so rainwater doesn't seep into the underside of the roof structure. Into each hole you would then need to insert the black plastic threaded blanking plugs with a crossheaded screwdriver.

I'd leave them on... I think they provide that extra little bit of protection for the skydome...

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum and own a pre-reg 57 plate black Dynamic 360, owned for all of two weeks now.

I negotiated a set of longitudinal roof rails as part of the sale on my panda. After closing the deal, the salesman informed me that the longitudinal bars don't fix into the existing mounting points on the roof and needed new holes tapped in the roof for fitting.

I reckon he was trying to set doubt in my mind about future water leaks hoping I would cancel the bars. I wasn't too concerned either way as it would be main dealer fitting of approved Fiat parts so the work would obviously covered under warranty but it did seem daft that Fiat would go to the trouble of fitting mounting points on the roof and then not use them!

I'm still waiting for the bars to be fitted because "the parts are out of stock in the UK and need to be ordered from the continent".

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has removed and/or fitted the longitudinal rails just to verify how they are mounted.

Cheers,

Gary

there is a thread in here somewhere, where a member bought the bars and fitted them, popped out the bungs, did something from teh inside, and away they went.

salesman is, i think, talking balls. seeing as they seem to like making holes in new cars, check how your rear number plate is fitted.....

If you do take your roof bars off Shortie, let me know if you want to sell them!

Cheers

Stuart

Re: Roof rails blanking 'plugs'

Does anyone know the actual name of the blanking things and where to get them?

How so.... The 100hp doesn't come with them and I've never worried about the glass roof.

In fact, I'm having the rails removed from the 'Cross' before I collect it on Saturday.

Unless you are actually going to fit a roof rack, all I can see them doing is increase wind noise and fuel consumption, for what......?

Still, it wouldn't do for us all to think the same would it...;)

I don't find that the roof rails increase wind noise or fuel consumption. Although my instinct would have been to avoid them if they were on an options list, I have had them as standard on both my Pandas and have used them a lot. In particular, I have just moved house and have recently carried 2 tables and the component parts of 2 beds on the roof, including a double mattress (not all at the same time!).
I don't see how you can have the roof bars removed from a Cross as the other plastic trim on the roof is styled to match up with the roof bars and will look very silly sitting there on its own.

It's got the glass roof so the middle strip will be missing anyway.... so the whole lot is coming off...(y)

In my view, it's plastic window dressing and completely useless to me...;)

I do agree about the rest of the plastic on the roof but after driving a petrol-engined 4x4 for 3 years I desperately wanted the diesel.
I wish we could have a basic, no frills diesel 4x4 in GB.

i can confirm 100% (to the chap who posted on the last page) that the roof bars do fit without any mods, and just bolt straight on with no work required on the inside..

i've fitted them on my 100HP, so to summarise; the sales is trying to pull a fast one (what a shock!)
