General Panda 100bhp mpg?

Ah lads those MPGs are shockin' bad...just got my 100hp today ,dealer laughed when I said I was hoping Id get about 45mpg on a long slow steady run, guess I know why now....The Cento Sportings were never great on juice ,I got 42mpg most of the time.I thought this motor would be better in the 'real world'.Ah well will let you know how I get on...Must mention that regularly got over 40mpg and 140mph ....sometimes on the same tank of fuel(!) with 1989 Opel Kadett GSi 16 V (ie factory 'stripped out Vauxhall Astra GTE 16V-no s/r /c/l/ e/w , fogs , or EVEN Alloys -Manufacturers handbook quoted 0-62mph in 6.9 secs-Elises are supposed to be light on fuel too....)

Just under 40 mpg, with 42 or so if driven really gently, though I've never pushed it below 36 - engine loosens up for at least 5000 miles and flexibility improves noticeably as well. I do very little in-traffic but a lot of twisty B roads and some heavily-laden trips to Italy not hanging about.

Daughter was getting high 30's to low 40's, with her 100hp. Due to a change in her job she traded in for Punto GP 1.3 M/jet (75 bhp ) now getting high 70's

Ian.

I prefered the 100hp, but i aint filling it up LOL

Oh man !Not sure I wanted to read that !High 70s!And probably more 'mid range' torque too...100bhp seems to have a minor but noticeable 'V Tec effect'/second wind at about 5000-5500rpm...but doesnt seem at its best in mid range...not bad down low in rev range though with the Sport button on.

mine has started to go down. Yesterday it was 39.38mpg which was mainly motorway and dual carriageway with a few bits of rapid acceleration on other roads. I don't think the 100hp could be considered a frugal car, my C4 which is a 1.4, not so much power and much heavier always returns about 44 but then no temptation to floor the accelerator there as nothing happens. Still under 500 miles in the Panda and once it's run in a bit more it's only going to get worse.

I average 38 mpg at the moment - seems to have dropped off from a good period of 40mpg. Mostly town driving, in a hilly town. I can hit 50mpg for a trip on a nice smoothly flowing A road.

Interestingly I did an 'economy run' in our 2006 Golf GTi last Monday (2.0 Turbo manual). Drove from home to Wood Lane London (shopping centre opposite actually), late morning so minimal delays. Result = 46mpg. Got stuck in traffic around Hammersmith on the way back and it dropped to 39.9mpg. Bl00dy good in my book (all car fuel computer readings btw - just like my Panda readings). We average 35mpg in that car btw - more motorway and A road runs than the Panda.

Hello All,

At the moment I have a Seicento and i'm thinking of getting the Panda 100bhp. What I want to know from HP owners is what the mpg is like when the car is:

- Pushed hard
- In town
- On the motorway. (80mph)

I test drove one yesterday and was very impressed with what you get for your money. But a second hand Diesel Panda sporting is making more sense as twice a month I travel a 280mile round trip.

Shortie

to add to the question with you guys is the mpg with the sport button on or off or does it not make a difference?:slayer:

Yes it makes a difference to both performance and mpg...(2-5 mpg?)

with the sport button off the steering feels awfully light so I've given up with that. I can't believe it makes any difference to the fuel economy as that surely is all down to how hard you use the right foot.

Well the on board computer drops instantly practically when Sport button is pressed although I thought I read somewhere that Sport Mode takes 10 seconds to 'engage'...

Hi Guys,

my thoughts on some of the above points are:

mpg:

Pushed hard - ive had 31mpg. (although once, for a laugh i reset it when leaving my girlfriends one night and during my 8 mile b-road blast home only averaged 21mpg!)

Town driving - 36-37mpg

Motorway - On a 280mile round trip with mainly motorway but some dual carriageways i averaged 47.7mpg.

Don't expect to get much more than 200 miles from a tankful on mixed driving though...

I find the sport button doesnt give increased performance, it just feels so because throttle response is increased. Its much easier to pull away quickly with it on and i find you dont have to use the full pedal travel to access full power. Also, heel n' toeing is just about possible with it engaged and with lots of practice. As somebody has said, its not a fast car by any means but i have dusted a Clio 182 down a tight B-road i know well!

I'm currently averaging around 41mpg; with a mixture of driving. No short journeys though, there's nothing worse for killing your avg mpg.

I did try driving like a nun for a week and got the average up to around 44 or 45, so it is possible, but it really wasn't any fun.

Agree with J Birch about the sport button, with it off it seems to need a lot more inches pushed on the pedal before anything happens, suspect it's that that improves the fuel consumption and that with a light right foot it would be just the same with sport on.
While it might not be a really fast car, relative to most of the cars on the road it does gather speed pretty quickly, I've already noticed a few up market saloon drivers who thought they'd eat a Panda for breakfast looking a bit surprised.

Isn't it a good feeling?! Best thing about the car for me!

I don't think so. I have sport on 100% of the time.

Agreed - I have sport selected - and climate control on - all the time and I doubt if they make any significant difference to mpg. It would be preferable to have sport setting on steering and throttle separate I think - steering is just too light on normal.

Don't think Sport makes any real difference to MPG apart from encouraging you to drive faster! I average about 35-36 in city driving to and from work but have had 45+ on long motorway runs.

would have thought the auto climate control would have hit the mpg as that seems to start the compressor.
Yes - the steering is very light without the macho button, feels even lighter than the standard setting on our 1.2 though not as bad as when the girlie button is pressed which is unbelievable.
