...Just a thought as over the last few years I have been a diesel fan and more recently a fan of the 100HP, maybe it wouldn't be a 100HP but Will they ever make a 'hot' diesel Panda? :D

You guys heard of any plans or rumours?

Think it's a good/bad idea?

Would it sell?

Sorry if this has already been discussed (I couldn't find a thread) :)

It would require a new beefier gearbox for certain.

And standard equipment ear-defenders. ;)

Diesels are quieter on song than petrols :p

Ask the Audi R10 drivers. When they first got the cars they didn't know when to change gear as they couldn't hear the engine compared to the R8. The gear changes and tyre squeels are louder than the engine!

Well you know.. You old age petrol heads can be a bit forgetful so we new school diesel freaks got to keep reminding you who'd boss.

Don't think we'll ever agree; vive la difference. But you're wrong. ;)

Surely as the diesel only manages 45mpg anyway, there's little point of a diesel one where the boost is ramped up.

There is the rumour going round for quite some time that the 1248cc will get the sequential turbo treatment too and would deliver 120bhp out of the box.

But one never knows with Fiat.

I wish they would.....

My MJ is a huge disappointment - it' s supposed to be the 'most powerful' of the non 100HP models - can't tell the difference from the Active. You press the right pedal, and you certainly don't get a surge of power.

It does 60mpg, so the economy's good. But that's it.

With diesels, you can get both economy and performance: look at the Fabia VRS and Ibiza FR/Cupra - seriously quick. Or even the C2 1.6HDi.

Go for it Fiat....

It is probably because the MJ is 80 kilos heavier than its petrol driven sisters (1.1 or 1.2). It should feel faster though, noticeably...

I would never go for a sporty Diesel. Half of the character in the 100HP is in its little roaring petrol engine.

The Panda Sporting we have just bought doesnt seem that much quicker than our 2001 Sei Abarth, but as the power comes easier and it is more refined it is deceptive.

In the fiat Idea the 1.3MJ produces 90bhp and over here in Italy they do a version of the Lancia Ypsilon (new y10) with the 1.3MJ with 105bhp.
Putting this into a 100hp chassis would be easy for Fiat but is it worth it??
In six months I have only seen 2x100hps in Italy and in the uk my mate has got a 100hp and not seen another in 5 months.

Would it be worth doing? Yes. Almost certainly.

You only have to look at the Fabia VRs to see that the derv hot hatch has a future. Be interesting to see how the Panda would fair with a low reving grunty unit in the front

I think you've got to be realistic with how much can be done with 70bhp. My multijet could never be described as fast, but its nippy enough and surprised me with being able to hold a high cruising speed no problem. I also think you have to drive a diesel differently from a petrol. If i want my MJ to pick up, i literally floor it, the boost comes in and off it goes. In a petrol you don't need to do this, as its much more responsive to small throttle inputs. So it may be due to how you drive your MJ.
