Just picked up my new 1.1 Active: very basic, fun and cheap. It hardly accelerates, and doesn't go fast: ideal for the drive to work, where anything better would be wasted.

I was expecting a new car to smell of glue, rubber etc, but instead it stinks inside: like something died and had been burned. Has anyone else found this? What did other new cars smell like?

Any ideas for a cure?

Very often on new Pandas the mechanics use too many grease in some parts, including the ventilation, and for the first few thousand miles it could smell funny. Mine did, my mom's too. It will go away one day... But it's nice to know the grease is there and it's a well built car.

Mine smelt pretty awful too, it's those volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in all oil-based materials, including plastic. Slightly poisonous, I believe, not that I want to worry you. :)

On the plus side, it isn't nearly as bad as a brand new Renault Megane, which made me feel sick as soon as I got in.

I was disappointed with my new Panda Active. Hardly any smell and I just love the smell of new car.
I find the performance OK but I was driving around in a 54 hp Felicia for the past 10 years so I wouldn't know any difference. The agility in town is really something.
