No, afraid not. Type Approval regs mean that ECO and S/S have to default to ON now, to save the planet.

Re: eco button / start stop

You just need to get into the habit of switching ECO off as soon as you’ve started the engine. Don’t worry if you forget — the car drives so appallingly with it on, it reminds you.

Why not leave s/s on? It works beautifully.

Re: eco button / start stop

Mine stays off , I feel with my daily commute I'm sloooowly moving rather than sitting at any point for more than a minute.

Doesn't suit me. However you're right... As Stop/start goes it's pretty fluid.

I have had two twinair 4x4's the first was a 2017 and it was OK in eco but a bit slow on hills or if joining a motoway. it was a 33-37mpg car.

My new one which has climate control so air con is always on, is a near perfect match for our 1.2 cars with the eco on, and a bit of a hooligan with it off and its a 38-55mpg car. I think there is a LOT of variation from one to another,

Probably all down to emissions and economy corruption!

A pity they didn't save the planet by making the car do 50mpg or even the 57.6 which they somewhat precisely and fraudulently used to claim it did! All this electronic stuff tends to fail without much encouragement and I doubt the resultant time in limping mode does much for planetary well being.

I suppose fitting 85hp motors in the 90HP cars goes some way towards balancing this.

That's a bold statement. It must have achieved those values in the rolling road lab tests, otherwise they'd not have been allowed to publish them. The test was well-known for being unrealistic - the 'urban' part covering just under 4km and taking just thirteen minutes (a good part of which with the car 'stationary' - hardly a real world journey). Few petrol cars manage to meet the quoted figures in real driving - hence the introduction of the more believable WLTP test programme. The many failings of the older test are covered here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Eu..._Driving_Cycle (note here, 'new' means 1997)

I said the same in stronger and more blunt terms in a direct letter to the head of PSA and the UK and Italian head of Fiat and told them EXACTLY what I thought of their grand scale dishonesty. The way I put it was directly accusatory, and as provocative as I could word it without outright rudeness or swearing. The response was banal. I have stepped in things in the past that revolt me less! Its more than clear that VW look like true statesmen of the automotive world by comparison with this bunch! While I really like Fiat the products I will be going Japanese or Korean next time in the full knowledge that pats supply is sometimes more difficult and that dealers are relatively few and far between. If it wasn't for the cost implications and 3 years remaining warranty that I cannot transfer I would change yesterday.

You can indeed get into the software there is a company in Norwich that is willin, but it would be prohibitively expensive to do two remaps needed, though it is tempting. This could be a really great feature of the car if it could be improved. Its pretty clear there is more than 1 engine map in different vehicles and that the older version is a menace. My 2019 car really is fine in eco and its convenient that when we are in convoy with a 1.2 eco matches them so well. If I switch it off after a few minutes there is no trace of the following Panda and I have to pull over and wait!
