So...
I've just been checking online, a Toyota Yaris(panda size) full hybrid auto box £22000.with the deposit payment, monthly payment and final optional payment.

Just been checking.

Those cheap mild hybrid sysems just like the Ford Ecoboost 1.0 MHEV Fiesta at £18/19k ain't so cheap, from the Fiesta to the full hybrid Yaris I would take the Yaris considering the little difference between them.

But then again I would still take the Fiat against the Yaris and enjoy keeping £10k in the bank.

In fact, if you sign up to lease the Yaris for 4 years and then hand it Back, it cost the same as buying the Fiat. After 4 years you own it.

Fair point - and in theory the Hybrid's a stopgap til the new Leccy Panda arrives next year (ahem).

I actually hope they are more than a stopgap and I hope the systems will get better and better.

I am not in anyway anti EV, I have been considering one for a while, perhaps not as an everyday car yet though, but I think there's a long way to go before the manufacturers get on track and break the total reliance on the plug socket.

To replace the ICE completely there needs to be a way to supplement cable based charging as the sole way of adding energy, energy that needs to be instantly available at that particular time.

I'm not saying this option needs totally replacing, I'm sure a large amount of journeys can be made using this format and perhaps a large amount of owners could access this option for most trips.

I just think to replace one for the other and possibly improve on what the conventional engines offer us, there needs to be ways of generating and storing energy and some more flexibilty in transfering that into a vehicle.

We've actually done part of this already with various electrically powered equipement including vehicles and transportation. We have devices that run on mains, devices that run on mains or batteries, devices that run on rechargeable batteries, devices that run on replaceable, rechargeable batteries that charge separately.

Why do we do this, because one way isn't enough for every situation.

Just picked up mine as a pre-reg from Arnold Clark in Glasgow yesterday - first impressions moss green is blue. Second - nice drive. Third - the instructions on using the hybrid engine could be better.

Anyway, my third Panda and looking great!

Picked up ours recently. Impressed with it so far but its got the small new tight engine not being too lively in top gear but I'm sure it will loosen up soon(we've only done 200miles).

I think it's a bit unfair to knock it.
Yes, it's not a full Hybrid, but these cheap mild systems are keeping cheap cars on sale for us to buy.

I'm sure they'd be more people up in arms if manufacturers said, "right that's it, no more £12k or £13k cars, now you forked out £30k plus on a EV version or £20k plus on a full Hybrid for a small hatchback".
(if that sounds reasonable, what you doing here?)

Ok, it's not really anymore powerful than the 1.2 it replaces, though is more power progress?
It's probably only shaving a few grams of CO2 off and drawing out a couple of mpg over that engine, but add that savings over the fleet these engines are fitted to, at the small price it costs Fiat, it's obviously worth it to keep these cars on sale at a price people will pay.

Otherwise you'd expect to be saying addio per sempre to them real soon.

Apparently the new 2022 full electric Panda wil cost around € 20K, with a up to ± 80 hp electric motor and a 28kW/h battery pack, and ± 240 Km range. (maybe 150 in the real world).
This could be even slower then the present Hybrid, due to the heavy battery pack and B-segment body size.

Well. Ours does 70mph reasonably easy 5th gear is OK to cruise and accelerate, 6th gear is really an overdrive at the moment but yo be fair when you ease off the accelerator and you can see the regeneration light flashing it adds to the omph when you reaccelerate.

Toyota is working on a new Aygo with 1.5 Hybrid engine.

That sounds like they are trying to cram in the current 1.5 hybrid system from the Yaris/older Prius.
Be interesting if they manage to shoehorn in the same capacity traction battery.

I've toyed with the idea of a Yaris Hybrid from a while, but never been impressed on test drives. They make an awful fuss when you accelerate just that little bit too hard.
They drive ok when you drive like a saint, but just when you need that little more, they do make a racket.

The idea is well out of my head now, just had a week away in the Scottish Highlands in my Clio.
130hp turbo petrol with dual clutch gearbox, 1800 miles and it returned 58.4 mpg and I didn't even try to be gentle.
50-65 on the A roads, 70+ on the motorways, climate on all the way!

Fiat have a habit of launching an interim model before the final model comes out.

Think back to the 1 3 diesel sporting that was about for a year or so before the panda 100hp.

So will we get a 1.3 hybrid or a 1.0 litre turbo.

That's very impressive for a 130hp petrol !

I know, I'm gobsmacked, it nudged 60mpg for most of the trip, it was only because the "leaky tap" with me needed to get home quick, so I hoofed it down the M11, then it dropped to 58.4 mpg.

It's a 2020 Clio RS Line 130TCe with an EDC auto box, so 1332cc 4 pot turbo.

I did a proper calculation with litres bought vs mileage and the trip computer stacks up.
I've never filled up a 42 litre tank before and got an expected range of 560 miles!

I think the 7 ratios in the gearbox help keep the motor in the sweet spot, though you never know as it's super smooth. Who needs a Hybrid?

Personally i hope for a 4 cilinder solution, so a 4 cylinder Firefly with 48v Mild Hybrid system wil have my preference, over the 3T 1.0 Turbo.
Further more, i think a atmospheric 4 cilinder 48v Mild Hybrid engine wil be less costly and have lower CO2 numbers over a 1.0 Turbo.
There are also rumors about a 1.5ltr 48v Mild Hybrid engine for the 500X.
Don't know if this is a Turbo charged engine, or a atmospheric engine with just a 48v Mild Hybrid system, there are rumors about a 105 hp 4 cylinder Firefly Mild Hybrid motor, but also about a twin scroll turbo 180 hp Mild Hybrid motor.

Apparently there will be some kind of Stellantis event on the 8th of July.

You might think the 500x will get same PHEV setup as the Jeep Renegade 4xe.

The 4xe uses a 4 pot 1.3 turbo with 130 or 160hp and a 60hp electric motor.
Pure electric range is around 26* miles.

That will never fit in the Panda, PHEV system is much to big.
Mild Hybrid systems can be used in the Panda.
a 1332cc 4-pod 48v Mild Hybrid 105 hp engine will work fine in the Panda, even in a 4x4, IMHO.

I never mentioned it going in a Panda.

You wrote about a rumor for the 500X with a 1.5 mild hybrid.

And I wrote I think they will copy the 500X's sister the Jeep Renegade, and fit 1.3 PHEV to the 500X.

1.0 mhev 1250 miles in and its loosening up. Good fun sounds at about 5k revs but I'm not sure if thats just because we have the sport model.

I have no experience of any other Fiat 1.0 mild hybrids.
