Hi guys, I have a 2015 Fiat Panda Pop, and I’ve been having some trouble with the back passenger door on the drivers side- for some reason, it won’t open from the outside, even when the car is unlocked. I have checked and made sure that the child lock is not on, and the car door will open from the inside, just not the outside- does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks very much guys!

Not to sound patronising but have you tried REALLY pulling it hard!? Or pushing from the inside.

In cold weather for example my doors stick like crazy. More so than any previous car I've owned.

Mine is exactly the same. I've not owned the car for long and the first time it happened I thought the door seal was going to tear! A quick spray of silicone has sorted them.

Hi :)

Open the door.. then use a stick..rod..or screwdriver to latch the lock mechanism

Once it is 'locked' you can try the various methods of triggering the lock ;)

There are fairly regular reports of the lock mechanism failing..

But do check the cheap and easy stuff first
:)

Mine had started doing this in cold weather on one of the rear doors. Mines a 68 plate I was going to book it in with the dealer. It’s definitely nothing to do with sticking to seal. It’s most certainly lock/latch related

Thank you all so much for your help guys, I really appreciate all the responses! The door will open from the inside, however no amount of pulling from the outside will get it done (unless I’m just a bit weak [emoji23]) will give the screwdriver trick with the locking mechanism a go next, and let you know how I get on!

I had the same problem on my 2016 Panda 4x4, when it was only a year or two old, started in sub-zero temps. Mentioned it to the dealer on next service and they said it was a known fault (actuator or something) so part was replaced under warranty and no problems since. Also get the sticky seal issue in frost or when door hasn't been used for a while!

Thank you once again to everyone who has taken the time to offer their help, it is greatly appreciated [emoji16] after consulting with my father, we have realised that the problem is with the actuator of the door. One final question I do have, is does anybody know if this rear passenger door not opening from the outside would be enough to make my car fail it’s next MOT?

Thanks again to everyone for all your assistance!

To the MOT question - yes, all doors have to be able to be opened from the outside (when unlocked) to pass the test, and the front ones from the inside too.

6.2.3. Doors and door catches

Driver and passenger doors must open from the outside using the relevant control.

Driver and front passenger doors must also open from the inside using the relevant control.

Ah I see, thank you for this- will probably leave it until the MOT and just get the fix done then, but it’s good to know- thanks again! [emoji4]
