Greetings All

I have recently been lucky enough to be able to buy one of the very few 2013 Pandas sold in Australia.

I love it. It has all the fiat-isms we've all grown to love. The wind up back windows, strange sequential on board computer. the vague, but notchy gearbox, the go-kart handling, the stonking torque which appears magically when you press the loud pedal, makes me smile every time, and the exhaust note which is fruity and full and reminds me of my 124 Special T... with a hole in the exhaust!
This brings me to unusual noises.
1. Is the car supposed to sound like a supermirafiori with a blown silencer or, do I have a car with a hole in the exhaust?
2. Every Fiat I've ever owned did not like any demands made on it before properly warm, but, is a serious misfire, running on one cylinder and the engine warning light usual? This chaos can be created by using too much throttle on a cold engine - anything above 1/8 throttle. It does not clear up by itself and needs the engine to be completely shut down and restarted, whereupon it behaves like a rolex watch working perfectly... ?
3. Lastly the clutch has started to emit a honking noise as it engages, once again, when cold...?
Suggestions will be appreciated, thank you.

1. Got to be a twin air :)

2. Sounds unusual but cold engines often certainly run differently from fully warmed engines.

3. Is your name Coco? ;)

1. Im guessing twinair also.. roaring is sort of normal.. (although my punto TA is much more BMWflat twin ;) )

2. Dropping to one cylinder.. it backs up the twinair theory.. AND explains the engine warning light

As I said to O.P.
get the fault codes read.. you are guessing on the root cause otherwise

Clutch..
TA .. and diesel.. use a DualMassFlywheel

DMF failure can generate noise :(

Be wary - as some DMF failures have damaged the casings ... not much clearance in there

I found a thread in the fiat 500 group which basically says they all make that noise, it doesn't get better or worse, save your money fora rainy day. Subject closed.

Our panda does none of those

Its a 2013 twinair ( I think yours might be similar)

As I said above.. that misfire wants investigating..
Or you will have emissions issues
( a replacement Catalyst will prove more costly than new spark plugs...)

An update for those who might be interested. The misfire came and went and finally was there pretty much every morning taking longer and longer to "clear" I caved and found a Fiat friendly garage nearby in Southport. I dropped the car in on an evening and next morning had the glad news yes there were codes identifying a misfire on cylinder 2 and a general misfire. The mechanic recommended we try new plugs as the ones in the car were badly fouled/burned. The report once the plugs were changed was problem solved.... except that it wasn't. Day one and two on new plugs was a revelation! I had a feeling the car was running below par and couldn't believe the transformation the two new plugs caused. It really made a huge difference right across the rev range. On day three there was a stagger as I pulled out into the flow of traffic, but just the one and then we were back to rocketship territory. This morning, day four, we were back to warning lights one cylinder running and the whole sit at the side of the road waiting for the car to warm up before I could get to the gym.
Its going back to the mechanic and we'll try new coils.. I'll let you know... God I love Fiats!

Perhaps something is causing the plugs to foul up, the new plugs were fine when clean and shiny but now they are also becoming sooted up? Straw clutching!

Just a quick reply.

Do you know exactly what oil grade is currently in the car. Its very important yo have the correct oil in the twin air.

Tim beat me to it
Get the oil and filter changed and make sure to use the correct oil.
Some (all?) TA have a filter in the actuator unit that is often missed at service.

Robert G8RPI.
Yes, I didn't want to be an alarmist but the symptoms sound familiar to my Uniair failure. Plug fouling may be a red herring or an indication that valve open/closing is wrong.

Rather than replace coil packs try swapping (assuming you can identify which cylinder is missing by reading codes) this way you save money on coil packs and perhaps better diagnose problem; if same cylinder missing points to problem other than coil pack...

It does have a rather unique and loud sound - I would say mine has always sounded different. I will make a recording off it, so you can compare.
