I does this if your manual gearbox is not in neutral!

I believe there is a sensor in the gearbox for this, if you get the message whilst in neutral, the sensor may need replacing.

Something like this I take it?

The Panda does not have a display that can show graphics like that - only a one-line text display above the temperature gauge - showing the date in this image from the handbook, but that same line also shows fuel consumption etc, or warning messages when needed. The Panda can be started without the clutch pedal down, so long as it’s in neutral.

So just like that but on the pandas version of the display then?

I checked this earlier and my 2018 Panda doesn't show that message, and nor did my 2017 or 2013 ones. All three are/were diesel, if that makes any difference. It is 'good practice' to start a car with the clutch down as it removes some of the load placed on the starter and battery, as well as being safer (in case it was in gear). I wonder if its only the TA that shows it?

Many cars do now need the clutch to be down to start, and it has been a requirement on things like tractors for a very long time, again as a safety precaution.

My 2016 Twinair Cross has this message*, although I have never bothered and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

(*Well, normally it does, but a bunch of clutch-related things have stopped working, as mentioned in the 'engine light' thread. Who knows, maybe this is all because I didn't press the clutch while starting  )
