On a recent 84 mile trip I reset the trip computer and got an average fuel consumption of 54.2 mpg. Mostly A roads, a mixture of 50mph sections and 60mph sections with around 30 mins of slow moving traffic crawling through a city centre!
This was in my 2014 Fiat Panda 4x4 Antarctica 0.9 Twinair Turbo, I thought that was a pretty good average.
What's your best so far?

Did you work that out just off the instrument readings, or by using real-world dead-reckoning i.e. filling the tank to the brim, noting mileage, doing the journey, followed by brimming the tank again and noting how much put in and mileage run, then doing the sums?

That way you'll get a fairly accurate 'actual' reading

Be worth doing the same journey twice under similar traffic/weather conditions in both normal and eco mode to see what the differences are.

I've not had my Panda long enough yet but its something I will get around to doing soon

Worked out with calculator refilling the tank, expect 50mpg. I had 48 mpg one tankful. Worst 28mpg. Quite thirsty usually.

Hi.
The on board display is optimistic between 2 to 4 mpg. In tank to tank calcs the best I got from the lounge was 62mpg and the city cross 58mpg. Both on motorway journeys doing mostly 65mph.

Neither were TA versions though.

It's so long since a did a journey of more than 10 miles that I've quite forgotten how bloody awful the TA's fuel consumption is.

Edit - anticipating all the replies saying how much better others' fuel consumption is, I should have said "how bloody awful my TA's fuel consumption is" :(

Hi.
During lock down and only doing short runs everyone's fuel consumption will be poor no matter what you drive. In fact before the Panda's my Rover 75 V6 2.5 auto could only manage 15mpg on short journeys to town. The 1.2 lounge was around 48mpg indicated and this one is 44 mpg since February when I did the last reset so if its doing 41 to 42 in real terms I'm happy.

Aye, MPG has as much to do with the driver as the car.

I used to shake my head at all the motoring journalists who decried Toyota's hybrids like the Prius for not delivering anything like the published MPG — I was able to better it in mine without any difficulty.

Yes..
I find my punto zero's every 10,000k

But is always showing 49/51 over that @6k miles..

All that VED free and with minimal outlay..

So we bought a low use panda.. but its Gutless compared to the Punto that I dutifully ran in myself.

only 19.5k on the panda though.. so gains still to be made ;)

"Gutless" not really, it is all compared with "what?"
"Fun" yes absolutely, compared with almost anything
My opinion only of course, and I have not driven/ridden EVERYTHING! but I have driven/ridden an awful lot, from scooters to bulldozers!:yum:

They are both 2013 spec 85bhp Twinairs..
But the panda seems ashtmatically muted by comparison

I do recall how feeble the Punto was when brand new.. and gains were still being felt after the 20k mark.. and the panda is still on 19k.. so Ive not given up..

ECO mode?

Just to clarify, I didn't use ECO mode but it would be interesting to actually compare the same journey with ECO mode on, to see if an actual increase in MPG is achieved or like I suspect, just a lower amount of power meaning you have to use more throttle, which kind of defeats the object!
Nothing scientific about my run or how I measured the amount of fuel used, I just used the trip computer built into the car, if this shows optimistic then at least any comparison with other owners cars will also be optimistic by the same factor?
I wasn't trying to drive frugally, just keeping a fairly brisk pace keeping at legal road speed limits, I actually hit some road works and a diversion that sent me through a busy city centre, so for around 30 mins I was in stop start very slow moving traffic!
Oh and I wasn't using the stop start feature!

Im not 100% sure that 2017+ are the same as my 2013's

But these questions have been raised frequently on the forum

My punto TA has Cruise (why I bought it..) and sometimes on a run I have noticed lower MPG displayed.. prod the button..and an instant improvement

Punto has more go in ECO than the panda has without

But the MPG question is an odd one..

My other cars are 1248 diesels.. and I tend to drive them in 7 days blocks..

It takes me a while to adapt driving style to attain better techniques.. in general driving

Example run of punto:
Cardiff to Dundee to Oxford virtually all 70mph on cruise.. ( no great technique)
54.5 mpg - not bad with aircon and summer traffic queues

Our 'panda driver' used to switch off Eco before even adjusting the drivers seat..
but now they are attuned to their own TA..
It stays on (as does the grin..)

Yes I'm sure there will be differences from TA engines in older cars of the same model compared to a newer car and also the TA engines in different models such as the Punto and 500 etc

Mine is a 2014 85bhp version.

I realise comparing MPG is not an exact science as there are too many variables involved, such as fuel used, weather, ambient temp, altitude above sea level, driving style, tyres, service history, traffic etc etc

One thing I should also note is I made the journey without using aircon, I have noticed a slight drop in power when it's turned on! My wife is always amused when I turn off the aircon when overtaking anything, it feels like it robs around 7-8 bhp ??

It seems these things are often very different. My 2017 4x4 used to do about 41 /2 on a run and could with very extreme care get to 50 mpg. The new 2019 Waze still 85HP although sold as a 90HP.... does a whole lot better and does 42-44 knocking around and managed 56mpg on a trip from Norfolk to Manchester and back towing a trailer last week. I nearly fainted!!!

The response of the new car is much better and it flies when you push it a bit, it will mostly run with ECO on without feeling under powered, only big hills tax it. I still find gentle driving with ECO off the best for economy.

The average mpg since new, still only 5000 miles back is 43.5mpg which is the same as my previous 100HP so I think its not too bad carrying all the 4x4 flab!

I should add, I achieved those MPG figures I stated at the beginning of this thread, on a camping trip with our Panda 4x4 loaded up with camping gear and a ton of other stuff that filled the back seat and boot, 2 adults and a dog lol
33 psi tyre pressure up front and rear, I usually run them at 32psi normally. Tyres are all season Hankook Kinergy.

I’ve had 58.9mpg out of our 63-plate TA Antarctica 4x4 on a run of ~135miles. Mostly free-flowing Norfolk (ie. flat) A-roads (~50mph - optimum) and a stretch of M11 where I tucked in behind a good size truck at 55-60mph. I was deliberately trying to get good mpg, so (very) gentle throttle, ECO mode ‘on’ and the tyres (albeit winters) were topped up to their higher load setting. It’s possible to get good mpg, but to get anything much more than 50mpg you have to consciously drive economically. 45-50mpg readily available on out-of-town runs, provided you keep with the traffic and don’t floor it. On winter tyres and with 4x4 system drag etc, I’m more than happy with how it sips fuel. Ours spends 90% of the time on ECO, since loosening up - never feels underpowered around town and only 4-up on the dual carriageway do you have to drop a gear to build speed etc
