My 2019 Panda 4x4 Twin Air has recently shown "Add Engine Oil to Max level" on the dashboard display. When I check the Oil level its already at the Max. I went to the Menu and selected the Oil Level reset function and selected YES but the Display is still showing the "Add Engine Oil to Max" on the Display. Is there something else I need to do?
thanks

Sounds like a sensor issue to me..

IF you cant get it back to a dealer..

I would disconnect the battery negative lead for 30 mins
It may well reset

Its a strange one though..

To me its either:

Sensed momentary low oil pressure

Got a 'level sensor' that is innacurate

Generally the engine just wants PRESSURE
This can falter if a low oil level disperses from the oil pick.up in sump

Hard cornering..etc can do this

BUT. If it says full on the dipstick..
That is not your issue

jrwestham varesecrazy The instruction to add oil (only with the TA engine) is triggered by distance travelled, not level. You don’t have a faulty sensor, and it won’t reset by disconnecting the battery. The procedure is explained in the owner handbook, but I seem to recall previous posts on here about same issue - the ‘confirmation’ of being reset not being recognised. Search this forum and you should find it.

I think, after pressing ‘yes’ you then need to press the ‘set/return [arrow]’ button again to confirm that you mean ‘yes’. Similar to resetting the tyre pressure warning, which also can be tricky to do... it’s that final ‘confirm’ that is not mentioned in the manual :)

Thanks for that informative post :)

Any idea when this became a feature..?

2019 certainly ;)

At least its not down to a dipstick fitted with a sensor.. my experience of those is not positive..

The printing date of the manual mentioned above is 06/2017 so certainly around at that point...

Thanks.. :)

I know space on the dash is limited..
But the concept of an 'add oil' directive is counterproductive

Check oil .. seems far more of a logical message

Ive got 2 (early spec.) TAs that dont lose the oil level between changes...
Adding oil in a vain attempt to put the warning message to bed is likely to cause other issues :(

I agree - “check (and if necessary, add...) oil” would be better. This feature was added during 2017 I believe (there was another post somewhere but I e not looked) as Fiat were seeing failures of the TA’s oil-controlled valves/intake system caused by low oil levels on some cars.

Given the avarage intelligence ofmany drivers it could say check oil level
And they would just Keep pouring oil to the car until it went out

Seen people do that for low oil pressure light's just the same until the point it start running out the top of the engine

My 2019 TA recently did the same thing. Your suggestion is right. I had three goes before getting it right and its not come back since.

There was no for its appearance on my dash. Its clearly an unreliable and useless addition to confuse owners and drum up business. It is pretty poor that such things when fitted are totally useless.

My 2017 car did not have this item in the trip computer menu.

From the various threads I think this is a time or mileage triggered message.

There will be a reason - completion of 8000km (or 5000 miles) triggers it - irrespective of the oil's actual level, as it is triggered only by approximate distance covered. This is described clearly in the instruction book, a photo of which appeared earlier in this thread :) See post 3 above

Ah it would be when I hit the 5K mark. Thanks.

Do they seriously think we trust their engines this long between checks.......

About 6 months after picking up my new Cross TA I took a 400 mile trip up the highlands, I checked the oil before setting off and about 330 miles into the trip the 'add oil' message came up, I had less than 5000 miles on the odo I can tell you I was sh#tting bricks for a while and paid an extortionate amount for a litre of decent oil to top up, it didn't need much in the end.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I followed the reset process in the handbook and on this post but what it doesn't mention is that after you select "YES" you have to press and hold the "SET" until you get the beep. all ok now Phewwww
