Hi All, following on from my other thread, i wanted to keep this one seperate.

Again, my wifes 2013 Panda Multijet 4x4 is currently in Halfords to investigate random warnings beeping and coming up on the dash. It didnt happen in 10 miles this morning but it happened a lot the other day when going shopping. ELD / ESP / Start Stop / Hill Holder unavailable and the yellow warning triangle lights up. Its really very random.

Halfords have said its the Body Control Unit and it has to be a main dealer job to sort it.

Again is this correct?

Any help much appreciated as my wife needs the car currently to look after her very elderly Grandmother.

Hi.
To be fair with all what I've heard I'd not trust Halfords to make a proper diagnoses. They are essentially correct about going to the main dealer. Is there a reputable Fiat independent you can try which could be cheaper than the main dealer?
Personally I'd not blame the BCU straight away. Proper diagnoses is not assumptions, it could be a sensor issue, corrosion causing intermittent connection somewhere or many things. Of course it could be the BCU but eliminate other things firstly.

Hi. :)

I would certainly get a second opinion..

Try and find one With kit that is good for FIAT.. a lot seem to default VAG.. :(

Where are you based?
Somebody may have a recommendation.

Did you get to the bottom of the engine running issue..?

Could all be 1 issue

Could it simply be that the battery is on its last legs? All sorts of 'random' warnings come up then, none of which are right, but show because the various sensors are not seeing the full voltage/current they expect and so think something is wrong. (Especially likely at the moment, when we are all being told not to drive anywhere, so batteries will be lower on charge)

Trust Halfords to come up with the most expensive fix first. I was taught always to start with the simple things. HH's spot on - with random faults like this, check the condition of the battery first - and the earthing, too.

Wifes car had a similar problem and I traced it to an intermittently working brake light switch.
Hard to beleave but a faulty brake light switch will cause all your faults.
The switch is a cheap easy fix.

Yes the brake switch is essentialy part of so many systems

Abs. Stabilty. Parking brake..(cruise control..)

This has been documented on here for @10 years :)

But the battery is still the best thing to rule out.. then look deeper ;)

HI could anyone help me find the Body Control Unit, it has fuses around it F43/F53

regards Keith Oram
