I discovered a square hole in the carpet directly under the drivers seat in my 2007 petrol Cross yesterday and it’s got me wondering what it’s for. The hole, about 40mm square, is cut in the carpet underlay and covered by a flap of the actual carpet. There is nothing underneath. I’m just curious as to what it’s for?

Vehicle Identification Number stamped in the floor pan perhaps?

I’ve got the winter pack so have already got heated seats, so I can’t see that it would be for anything to do with that.

Some Fiat vehicles have had the fuel cut-off switch under a seat. Is there a cutout both sides, and the switch moves for LHD/RHD?

Alternatively, drug smuggling, or secret stash of M&Ms?

Maybe the fuel cut off - I’ll have a look on the other side when I get the chance. Thanks

I believe it is where the under-seat subwoofer was to be located. Altough never offered as an option on the post 2012 cars, it was in same place on previous model. My 2018 4x4 has it (the flap in the carpet) too. Heated seat wiring takes different route. No fuel cut off there, and VIN number is under the boot carpet.

On the previous model there was a physical reset button for post-accident fuel cut off, but that was under the front edge of the passenger seat and easy to see from the footwell. On the post 2012 cars, there is not a button to reset this, but instead a sequence of turning the indicator switch from one side to the other in rapid succession (as described in the instruction book... :) )

Thanks, that’ll be it then.
