I have had my new Panda Cross 4x4 for a little over a month now and I am very pleased with it. My only concern is the headlight brightness.

I have replaced the original H4 bulbs with Osram Night Breakers but still feel some improvement is necessary. I want to remain UK Road legal and this seems to rule out LED’s and HID’s.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has found a solution to this problem.

Not sure that I have a solution but I replaced my 4x4 TA lights with Night Breakers too and found then adequate. I'm not sure there is a solution, if you wish to remain totally legal

That’s strange, my wife and I both agreed that the City Cross has the best headlamps of any car we’ve owned. Once we discovered which button to press to raise them from the fully loaded setting it was on when we took delivery.

I find that carrying any weight at all in the boot makes them tilt at the moon on full beam. Mine are often more effective with the trajectory lowered a notch or two. It's worth experimenting.

I’ve commented elsewhere here that mine were improved by changing to 130% brighter bulbs, but improved further by adjusting (from under the bonnet) the angles - the lights were set up to converge (left one pointing slightly to right, and vice versa) which made high beam a narrow ‘spot’ on distant hedges. Set up ‘right’, they’re actually very good. In evening half light they may not *appear* to be very bright compared to other cars, but this is in part because they give a wide, even spread of light rather than a bright bit in the centre. In Hertfordshire’s very dark lanes they prove to be very good, even if initial impressions were not so great.

Precisely what that adjustment on the dash is for :)
Handbook shows...
Setting zero - driver only
Setting 1- driver plus load in boot
Etc

I have noticed that the mains are too high relative to the dips and that slight lowering makes things better. I will look forward to your advice ref adjustment as I feel you are onto something.
