Usually wait 300 miles for new oil to stop being see through on my TA 4x4 before put foot to floor. If we ignore the gradual return of the performance over 600 miles (gets a lot faster) am more concerned with limp home mode that generally comes on day after and lasts a week or 130 miles on cold starts. Yet main dealer (not who it goes to) says it doesn't need to relearn the oil.

Dad cured it last time by wellying it. Anyone else have to do this? Ruining my experience of the car. The orange triangle coming on for last 10 months for no reason doesn't bother me at all as MOT in warmer weather so it doesn't come on. Due oil change week on Monday (booked in). Has 2 a year no matter what.

Thanks.

It gets 0w 30 C3. Smooth, quiet and never used a drop. Never had same issue with my 63 plate, but someone posted on here with similar aged car with same issue. Off the week it's going in so will have cleared when need the car would have thought.

Surely if it goes into limp mode a fault code will be recorded?

No stored codes 3 months after it first happened. Would it do it for dealership if didn't need the car, no idea. No warranty left now so not getting involved with that.

varesecrazy had about 3.5 months warranty left in January when dealer looked at. If had to guess, the uniair unit sticks with fresh oil until run off limiter. Get flashing engine malfunction light, 10mph and one cylinder. Pig slow until 400 miles + up anyway. Didn't play up when bought, but quick it wasn't....

Check the mulitair oil filter. I have never heard of new oil causing problems. Cars run best when the oil has just been done and you shouldn't need to alter your driving at all. It sounds like something else is going on. My MultiECU scan does not pick up all the issues that Fiats system does. I would see if you can find a good dealer to do the next service. My local firm have been good at having another look when any issue have arisen after a service.

There is a good post about the filter on here and it sounds quite simple to remove and replace. Some sort of gauze mesh job.

The Panda Nut Hi Pete, had that filter cleaned at 31k, unmarked. Mechanic used cloth and some carb cleaner anyway. Had as of next week 4 oil changes in 18 months and 13k.
Total miles 42k and 5 stamps, '16 plate.

Dealer bought from reset service light and uniair unit. That's only difference compared to maintenance had since. No idea why happens at all.

4 oil changes in 18 months and 13k miles?

Sheesh!

An oil change should not screw up your engine, even temporarily. If your dealer is spinning that bull to you, go somewhere else!

gar074 I don't use main dealer but when it was there in January got fair bit of useful information. It wasn't in for issue in this thread. They'd only had one uniair failure, caused by 10w 30 oil which no one on here would ever have used. So was confident and still am that 0w 30 C3 completely fine. Main dealer couldn't bring up any stored codes anyway.

Will clear itself anyway and I need some more work shoes so car will get a proper run out a week today, should be enough. :)

I cannot see how it can drop to 1 cylinder.

Oil related: are they checking the degradation counter correctly?

Sounds feasible that if its set for
'Dirty oil' it would be 'non.optimal' until the oil got some use..and was then dirty enough to fit the spec the ECU is anticipating.

As suggested ..try a different place.

Still a few chrysler (lancia ypsilon) places around..as well as Alfa indies.

Remind me where you are based..

varesecrazy am in South Cumbria. Booked in with mechanic anyway. If drive home like hair on fire that should do it. Found independent Alfa specialist in Lancashire near where load of my family are. And when it first went into limp mode considered taking it there.

Do have fair bit of mechanical sympathy. 1.5c today so had it in eco until it warmed up. It'll be fine by next Wednesday, just if wasn't would have to have recovered.

Have you checked the turbo waste-gate linkage. There has been some talk of premature failure resulting in limp home mode. If by chance it is this I think there may be a repair kit but a turbo specialist would be able to sort it without resulting to a new turbo. It sounds really annoying so I will keep my fingers crossed you get to the bottom of it without a heap of expense.

Car had oil change today, with brake fluid and wiper blades. Saving on main dealer prices of around £60 I'd have thought. Performance unaffected this time, car had done around 3700 miles in 6 months. May be fine now but it's not journey home where it doesn't like something. Will be 24-36 hours time when I know.
