General 85 or 90 HP which have you got??

Hi. My new Panda cross bought November 2019 has Goodyear duragrips, 175x65 which are summer tyres in spite of specifically asking for M&S tyres as per the website, also 85bhp engine. Does anyone understand what Fiat are doing.

Digging their own corporate grave.

There is a new Cross 4x4 on AutoTrader with Goodyear Durarips 175/65s. I think these are ordinary summer tyres.
From around July 2018, the official price list showed that new Cross 4x4s would be fitted with summer tyres... I assume as part of trying to improve the fuel and emissions figures in the new WLTP tests. Any stock already in the dealers would still have had the all season (not winter) 185/65 tyres. The Non-Cross 4x4 model also is listed as having summer tyres in the price list... but still very clearly shows winter tyres on the website (https://www.fiat.co.uk/panda-range/panda-4x4). Fiat will of course pint out the small print of the website that explains that it may not be right.

I hope the ASA are moved to prosecute them but if no one else gives a monkey's they will get away with scandal. Its up to owners to raise hell about this. Financially I have accepted compensation, but I have not had either explanation or apology and as these were part of the demands made that they seem incapable of meeting they will continue to hear about this indefinitely.

Every dealer advertising Waze as 90HP is being reported to the Advertising Standards Agency on a daily basis so eventually they will understand the scale of the misinformation perpetrated.

Is this another motor trade scam a la VW saga. I wonder how many other cars are not actually the power rating advertised. Last time one got caught it transpired they were all busy cheating.

I will be getting my winter tyres next week and will have the new FREE alloys fitted with the summer tyres the car came on. The floor mats are now installed in the 1.2 so that's a bit of dosh saved. I feel I let them off very very lightly. In due course I will let you know how the Michelin Alpins behave in UK conditions.

Clearly you are right. They do make a massive improvement. My new one does 40+ and 50mpg on a run without effort where the last one struggled to get to 40 even on a long run with a lot of effort.

It does seem a bit pointless having a 4x4 that might get stuck on a grassy slope though. So summer tyres seem a bit daft to me.

A lot of the misinformation on the Fiat UK web site has been corrected now. They even show the 4x4 as having rear disc brakes. I wouldn't trust anything they say on there however. Best to see a car in the showroom, drive it and decide whether you like and then buy, or not. I will never again have one built to order as its quite clearly not a certainty you will get what you ordered or paid for! It would have been nice to get the electric mirrors asked for. At least in the Panda I can reach the adjuster from the drivers seat for the passenger mirror

Me too - Continental Eco Contact 6,175/65 85Hp

Subsequent to this I’ve been in touch with the dealer. He’s confirmed with Fiat Customer Care that the car should have 185/65/15 M & S tyres. I called them and they’re arranging to have the correct tyres fitted. I’m just waiting for confirmation. Of when

The Waze spec did say summer tyres. After Fiat paid for a set of new alloys in compensation for the engine being 85 and NOT the 90HP stated I now have the summer tyres on the alloys and a set of Michelin Aplins in the steel wheels.

If anyone finds a paint match for the wheels it would be a useful fact on here. I had to have 4 new wheels refurbed to get them the same colour as I had three wheels from Fiat and 1 a few months old that I thought could be refurbed. My error cost me dear there. No one in Norfolk could guarantee to match the paint and there is no code. At least I have a unique set of wheels! ....and I have my wheel paint code.

Could've just refurbed two wheels, and kept them on the same side of the car. Colour match doesn't matter from left to right.

Excellent suggestion! I had a Series II Espace ("The Bastard Renault from Hell") that had expensive-to-replace alloy wheel trims (yes! it came with steel wheels and alloy trims!). One of them fell off, and I ran it for quite a while with 2 cheapo plastic trims on one side, and the original alloy trims on the other. Nobody ever noticed.
