Waze 4x4 cross towbar.

Well finally completed the swap over and I can confirm that the towbar off the standard 4x4 does fit the cross models. You do have to cut the bumper it requires quite a large hole, but it is still not visible from the rear with the bar removed. I have a few pictures if anyone else is doing the job.

Main bit of advice is bumper removal. There is a short piece of grey trim that edges the bumper held by two Philips screws that needs to be carefully released to allow the bumper to be removed and replaced without damage. Failure to get this bit right will result in a broken bumper which would be difficult to re-align / fit again.

Fitting the towbar is simple.

There are a lot of holes behind the bumper that are not properly sealed / grommited so if you are thinking if paddling your 4x4 cross / waze, check that you have sealed these or you will get water ingress.

I only noticed while fitting that the tyres are the 175s not 185s fitted to the cross. What on earth is going on here I cant imagine A 4x4 without at least all season tyres is a bit daft. So I now want another set of wheels and tyres. I am actually glad to have the narrower tyres as this will benefit fuel consumption. Still pleased with the waze and still surprised how much quicker it feels.

Car looks better in reality than in the photos and I am pleased with the Supaguard. The little handbag provided with cleaning products is just right for the stuff I carry in addition to the jack bag in the boot.

Panda has been working already collecting a full load of bedding plants and shifting logs. I now remember why I ordered electric mirrors as I use them a lot while reversing the trailer. Oh well I shall have to slum it and lean over.

PS best way to cut the bumper is a Stanley knife!

I guess it would fit, as the bodyshell is identical to your previous 4x4 (and indeed all the other Pandas)

The towbar for the 4x4 and Cross is different to the 2 wheel drive versions, to allow for the extra 50+ mm off the ground... but I note that one make of towbar (Umbra Rimorchi from Italy) shows the use of very slightly different mounting holes for mounting on the 'regular' 4x4 and the 4x4 Cross version (which would include your Waze) - maybe owing to that difference in the bumper? (see the instruction sheet here https://www.umbrarimorchi.it/tech/DO...0.TextMark.pdf , on page 5)

So, maybe the price list I linked to previously was correct after all, which showed all models of the Cross being supplied with 'summer tyres'? Curiously though, that was altered a couple of days later to show 'all season tyres' on the Cross 4x4 and the 'regular' 4x4. I've just looked again though - and now the new May 2019 price list shows 'summer tyres' on all the 4x4 models! (https://www.fiat.co.uk/content/dam/f...dels-PDFv3.pdf - pages 49 and 53)

I wonder if they've run out at the factory? (All season and winter tyres can be very hard to come by at certain times of year, as I have discovered in the past). Or, as I speculated before, maybe its in an attempt to get better mpg from the WLTP testing. You might try another call to Fiat customer services to see if they can explain what the reason is?

Do you have any pictures of the wheels, without the covers on... keen to see if they are the same steel wheel the 'regular' 4x4 gets on the continent. (Also, did you get your 4x4 wheel covers - which again I think are what the 4x4s get in Italy)

I will try and get pics over the next few days and attempt to post. I think the wheels are the continetal standard ones they are 5 spoke steel and yes I have 1 of the wheel centres. about 15 including Vat and posted to me as well. I will post pic and part number as soon as I have time. Daughters verdict is the 4x4 centre and steel wheel looks better than the wheel trim. After just 500 miles though the trim has rubbed all the paint off the whole circumference of the wheels though... I am considering getting the wheels powder coated to a reasonable standard. I got the trims from Mangoletsi Knutsford where Barry the parts man was very helpful. He sold me the bumper protector and sill protectors at a decent price too.
Thanks Herts Hillhopper thanked for this post

Hi.
Is the towbar different for the City cross? It has the longitudinal silencer box and the higher ground clearance as per the 4x4.

Just read a post by Goudrons who says the 4x4 bar definitely fits the city cross. I would say its sound. The only fitting difference is you probably have to release the back silencer from its mounts to get at the tow bar bolts underneath. This should not be difficult. I had to do this on the Bravo which has a longitudinal box too.

My dealer said its summer tyres from now on. New Panda is much more economical so maybe this is the reason. Summer tyres have much less tread too! Conti Contact 6 are however very good road tyres. As likely as not its because they are cheaper. than the M+S

Re: Waze 4x4 cross towbar.

That will be for the mpg, then. Terrible move imho. I wonder, do they even give the option of upgrading to M&S tyres when you order? My Michelin Cross Climates are excellent.
