General Buying a new panda cross

Thats a nice Tipo. What sort of MPG do you get. My Bravo is approaching 100K and may be up for change in the next 12-18 months the 1.3 sounds tempting.

Hi there.

Average bumbling about I get late 40's to the gallon, but on a run it does much better. However, It seems the 1.3 diesel is no longer avaiable in the Tipo from new.

I tried a 1.6 120 recently and was very impressed after my Bravo. The Bravo is good for 55-60 in normal running and does 60-70 on a run so it sounds like the extra torque is worth having. As ever with these things geography affect matters!

Why so? Intrigued! :chin:

Edit: Aah, the power of Google. It's the village that objected to the yellow car spoiling the tourist pics, right?

Some people have no soul.

We bought my daughter a yellow 1.2 so we can go visit the place. 50 years ago there used to be a great shop selling home made fudge.... I havn't been there for a while.......

Hi.
I can coax 50mpg just about round town in my 1.2 but doing that is hard work, keeping the revs down, no quick take off, hardly braking and really reading the road well in advance of lights etc, this definitely slows progress and remember the highway code "Don't impede the progress of other road users". On a long relatively flat motorway journey in summer conditions I've seen 65mpg and that's on my 1.2.

Granted having the extra power of the TA would be nice but I like a quiet, smooth and economic engine that is easy to service and has a well proved reliability record which the the old FIRE engine has. If you want a bit more power and the smoothness just get the 1.2 remapped. OK its not a huge increase but it's very useful.

1.3 diesel now discontinued. That's the main reason my new car is not a Panda. I looked for one for some time. I bought the last available new Alfa Mito last week just to get the 1.3 Multijet engine. Always was my favourite engine.

So we're picking up our new cross on Saturday, it's only taken 7 weeks from order so really happy with that as I was expecting 12.

Just need to order some rubber mats and some oil for top ups.

Is there anything else worth getting to keep a new car running / looking good?

Cheers

So here's the new yellow panda. Sunglasses definitely needed! ??

I put the Rear Bumper Guard, and the Door Sill Guards on my 4x4. The bumper guard is invaluable especially if you carry a dog in the back.

Door sill guards 4x4 specific so order right ones. Front ones a dream to fit. Rear ones aren't as well thought out. Could always leave them off. Part No. seemingly 59137473.

I think this is the other way round: the door sill guards will fit all models (the sills are the same after all), but the rear bumper guard is specific (because the bumper profiles are different). There are three versions of the bumper guard: 'normal' Panda, 4x4 (non Cross) and the Cross version.
I found it much easier to fit the door sill guards by first pulling away the rubber door seal from across the bottom of the opening (it just pulls away and is an easy push-fit again afterwards). I did take a full set of photos showing how I did it... don't think I ever posted them here though :)

Different part numbers for the sill guards. Don't know where came across this. Possibly something on different forum where someone discovered the normal Panda ones didn't fit. Some dealer group parts pages specifically point out the difference between them. Also was parts supply problem apparently though dealer group bought car from had in stock. Same dealer group you got your MJ 4x4 from (Richard Hardie).

That's for the advice about the sill guards and the bumper guard. I think it's exactly what we need as we will probably put a dog in there periodically!

Is there any supplier of bumper guards that are better than others? Or are they all the same kind of moulded plastic?

Cheers

You're right - there do appear to be two part numbers and some dealers suggest the part wont fit the 4x4/cross versions. So far as I know, those I fitted to my 4x4s (all three!) didn't specifically say '4x4' anywhere on the packing... but I don't think I have the part number still.

Currently these on eBay: http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=202332316065

However, the rear bumper guard definitely is different shape:

So anyone with a 4x4 or Cross the Part no. 59137473. The front wheel drive car 59137471. The only person I know with a front wheel drive TA on here is JCarp16 for instance. Majority of owners have the 1.2.

What is everyone's experience with running in the twinair engine? We've done about 400 miles so far with about 41mpg, I'm guessing the TA will loosen up a bit in the next few hundred miles?

We've been impressed, it's not fast but it is nippy! Is this also likely to improve?

My Parents had a 2012 Fiat 500 TwinAir, lighter car than the Panda 4x4 and a few years ago so there'll be differences, but it was the same basic engine in 85bhp form. That seemed to perk up considerably over the first 10,000 miles. By 10k it responded the same in 'Eco' mode as it did in non-eco mode when we picked it up brand new, so it loosened up considerably.

We got mid-late 40s to the gallon overall, but weren't trying at all and it got driven at low speeds quite a lot. On the open road we managed mid 50's pretty easily, but I'd expect the figures for Panda 4x4s to be reduced a little due to the 4x4 running gear & associated weight. Brilliant engine, we still look back fondly on it, some 4 years after selling it.
