2014 1.2 petrol. Today the check engine light came on. Took to local garage who read code p010162 airmass flow meter drift, they were then shutting. Car starts ok and runs, but if left to idle for too long revs will rise to 1500 ish and accelerator pedal has no affect. Pedal shown as working ok on code reader. Have searched site and Google to no avail on any info.
Any ideas please and thanks

These engines have no MAF.
The air calculations are done via a MAP that's screwed into the end of the manifold.

But writing that, they do seem to throw up MAF related codes as some sort of generic air/fuel related code.

With that code and the way it's running, I suspect there may be an air leak somewhere.

Thanks that's what it seems to suggest on the little info I can find so far. Have already changed air filter and checked that will look at pipes when get chance

Hi.
Take the MAP sensor out and see if it is covered in oil, if so give the sensor element a good clean with carburettor cleaner, also clean the throttle assembly and flap with the same stuff (engine running) then clear the codes with Torq or Alfaobd. You may need a new MAP if badly contaminated. I use a oil catch tank on my 1.2.

Checked pipes etc for air leaks cannot get check engine light to come on again. No codes showing ???? Will see how it goes

Hi.
I found on mine a fair bit of oil on the MAP and some slight pooling on the back section inside the air filter box. The throttle body was slightly gummed up as well. Although I didn't loose accelerator pedal operation the revs would rise and you had to switch off and restart. No EML or codes. Cleaning the throttle body and flap with carb cleaner was a cure. I suspect the flap doesn't close properly with the gum. The oil catch tank has gradually improved the smoothness and power from the engine.

Thanks all cleaned flap as extra precaution all seems well now with no reoccurence of the fault

Right the check engine light has come back with code p010162 maf again. Garage is telling me there's a maf sensor fitted in the throttle body and it needs new one at £400 plus vat without fitting cost, any one know anything about this. A previous garage said no maf fitted yet desirable Norwich say its inside throttle body, and are trying to sell garage or they have in stock.
Any help appreciated thanks

Fiat desira Norwich say there's a maf sensor inside the throttle body and you need to replace whole throttle body at £400 plus vat for part, as maf sensor is not replaceable.

I would respectfully say that Fiat Norwich just 'desira' your money - your car does not have a MAF sensor. The MAP sensor however will look broadly like this - https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Fiat_Panda_1.2_2014/p/car-parts/fuel-and-engine-management/engine-parts/engine-management-sensor/?420650010&1&1190579640f21f2f90cae3482bb99081e6412338&000515 - assuming the link is not a cached search and having made yourself familiar with the item ask Mr Fiat to point the MAF out to you under the bonnet.

Well I've had the TB off a couple of Pandas and never seen any evidence of a MAF in any.
A VAF might be built in to it which does the same thing as a MAF, but it would need to be before the TB and I haven't seem one of them either.

From what I know, the Panda uses a speed density system, air isn't measured like an airflow system, but calculated using readings from the throttle position sensor, air temp sensor and MAP sensor.
The PCM would still have an air flow reading to use/report, hence the MAF code, but it's not measuring it directly with any separate device.

I hazard a guess there's an issue with one of the other sensors that it uses to calculate the air flow, like the TPS.

If you fancy your chances a new TB will cure it, this is a little bit cheaper than your dealer.
