Today i took my TA Lounge for its MOT..The tester told me that the lower RPM Test was a fail. And the fast idle was a pass which he couldnt work out..He did the same test again and got the same result. So he past it.So the querky Twin Air continues to amuse...

The twinair is a spoilt brat at Emission testing time....

Had my 63 plate tested after a 50 mile journey home from the job I waa doing at the time. It passed not a problem. Whether take my current car from home next Easter time to garage (about 7 miles), should be enough. Guess will see.

No way Al. Take it for at least 30 miles at a brisk pace, get it thoroughly warm and give it a bit of a blast to clean out the exhaust to be sure. After 7 miles it will not be fully warm even though the temp gauge will be up. You have me terrified now about the MOT now. I have not had a fail on any car for a long long time silly things like bulbs aside so I hope the Panda will also be good......
This funny engine probably thrives on being driven so thats what I intend to do before the MOT. Probably a good long run the day before.

I think the first MOT is all in my service agreement. I may extend this to pass the problem off to the dealer!

Also while on the mot ramp the TA was subject to a full on rough road test..What i mean is all four wheel were shaken to about 4 inch of travel and then a side ways motion...

Were the figures anything like this?... https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-iii/457524-annual-mot-twinair-emission-woes.html

I've, after much research, changed to running a thinner grade oil for next time in the hope that uniair timing will change enough to bring the Lambda down in the test.

not sure about oil.. as the older twinairs were on a different grade anyway..:spin:

any niggles with the panda's ..?
as I'm contemplating one.. relatively late model.
fed-up with the punto being too low for all the SUV's with stupid-bright headlights..:yuck:

Intended to add this last week; 63plate TA 4x4 62k miles.

MOT'd last week at MOT station no more than 3 miles away, wanted to get there 1st in queue when they open at 8:00am. Overslept so no time for "warm up" drive around village so straight there and drove it myself onto ramp. Short story - passed no problem.

INNOVA 2000 gas analyser;
Fast idle

CO2 0%

HC 6 (ppm by vol)

Lamda 1.022

Slow Idle (Natural)
CO2 0%

While I always use these guys I wouldn't say they are a "walk over" for the MOT rather more "firm but fair"

So conclusion; warm up (for ths car) makes no odds but then engine management should have it covered (although ambient air temp was not that cold so maybe not having to enrich too much).

That's all, not much to add at this point. Phil's Panda; maybe you should try a different test station (my MOT cost £40)?
