Diesel on the way out

Morning All,
I know it's not news in general that diesels are doomed and that Fiat have announced that they will no longer make diesels after 2020 but for Pandas (and 500s) that day may be sooner rather than later.
As of 1 September in Spain diesel has been dropped from the whole Panda and 500 range. I assume that the UK won't be far behind.

Re: Diesel on the way out

Apologies if it's not news. I wasn't aware they'd been dropped already. In Spain the Twinair Cross doesn't sell at all so that pretty well kills off the Cross out here. Sad.

Are you (and others) sure that they've been dropped permanently?

There a a large number of models of cars from many manufacturers that aren't being sold at the moment, because they can't cope with the new emission tests. Many of them are being tweaked and some need particulate filters fitting (even petrol ones), but it is intended they'll be available again at some point.

Re: Diesel on the way out

I'm afraid it's definitely gone. I was downloading the handbook yesterday and there are two versions. The post March 2018 one has had all mention of diesel in it removed! It's a pity as I think the multijet suits the car perfectly. We live 2 kms down a dirt track in the mountains of southern Spain and it's like a little mountain goat. Brilliant!

The 4x4 and Cross models are still shown as being available, both in Spain and here, with the diesel engine... https://www.fiat.es/panda/panda-4x4

screenshot below of Spanish website taken just now... and this story from fiat.com's international news section shows new MultiJet diesels with AdBlue technology announced for the 500X: https://www.fiat.com/news/new-fiat-500x

Re: Diesel on the way out

Interesting. They may be soldiering on with the diesel in the 500X but it has certainly disappeared for Pandas in the Spanish market. I wanted to configure my own car and sat with the dealer looking at their internal configurator and the diesel was no longer listed for order. I presume it's still listed on the website as they have about 50 physical units around the country to shift. And why rewrite the handbook to remove any mention of diesel if only a temporary halt in production?

Re: Diesel on the way out

Interesting to note that for the 500, it seems the TwinAir has also been dropped... only 1.2 Petrol listed on the configurator... https://www.fiat.co.uk/Configurator/...ange/#/version

Is that the same profoundly interesting information that states the Panda 4x4 has drum brakes on the back..... I shouldn't take to much notice of them!

Re: Diesel on the way out

Here's the definitive answer: from official Fiat price list for September 2018...

This confirms that (1) the MultiJet is not available in the Panda any more, and (2) that the TwinAir is also dropped for the Model Year (MY) 2018, except with the 4x4. All the rest of the range is shown as only being offered with the 'old' 1.2 petrol engine. https://www.fiat.co.uk/content/dam/f...ber%202018.pdf

(see page 44 and 45)
However, if you scroll to the very end of the file (page 95) you will see Panda 'previous range' which shows the price for vehicles with other engines 'while stocks last'...

Re: Diesel on the way out

It hasn't been dropped throughout the range. It's been dropped on the non-4x4 Pandas.

So, you might reflect on your purchase in a different, more positive way, i.e. that Pandas with the TA engine are now more exclusive, and therefore more desirable, than ever.

Re: Diesel on the way out

Judging by the new brochure, the 1.2 Panda now has less Co2 than the TA 4x4 (used to be more). No published performance and economy figures for the 4x4 and Cross, probably as pretty awful. I can give them a combined figure of 33.5mpg based on my best and worst economy divided by 2. Doubt they want to publish that though.
