Panda (63) newer shape. Been always reliable, and great to drive. But suddenly wouldn`t start and even when key not in wipers started going and all dash lights flashing. Engine not turning , all dead, and wipers still going, dash lights all flashing Any ideas appreciated. Desperate

Disconnect the battery... if you have stop/start, theres' a push button release on the wire connected to the - terminal. If not, a small spanner is needed to loosen the connection. That will turn everything off. Don't disconnect the + wires (hiding under the big red cover).

Then you will need to get it looked at. It may be the battery is playing up, leading to 'odd' behaviour from the computer in the car that makes everything work. Or it may be that computer is at fault.

It may be that reconnecting it later on will find everything is ok again (like restarting a mobile or PC by turning it of and on again).

Powering down is certaily a good start.

Wipers running.. on older cars would be an Earth fault..

There have been SOME instances of the main battdry to engine BLACK:EARTH cable failing internally.

Usual qustion: had any work done lately?

Any other strange occurenced??

Charlie

Main earth cable would be my first check, as suggested above.
Also check the chamber below the windscreen, under the wipers, under the plastic cover. There are drain tubes for this area, and they clog with dead leaves and other debris, then the chamber fills with water. This then spills into the car interior. On the previous Panda, that water could pour onto the body computer, so likely to be a possibility on newer ones too. Check the drains 2-3 times a year, more often if you park under trees.
If this is the cause, usually waiting for the body computer to dry out resumes normality.
