Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a trekking 1.3 diesel. However, I am wary of the 15" alloy wheels, being concerned they may be prone to cracking on corrugated and potholed roads. I know most newer pandas have 14" wheels, so 1" smaller seems within the 1" bigger or smaller rule of thumb in believe exists.

13" wheels will have an extra inch of travel in them, also desirable off road.

Will the smaller wheels interfere with the brakes or anything?

Would allow 4x100 stud pattern wheels to fit.

I see Mazda 121 had steel 13" wheels with 63.4mm centre bore, the panda has 58.1. So 5.3/2 = 2.65mm needed to fill the gap. I don't think those plastic spigot rings I see do much, can I find steel somewhere?

Your thoughts welcome. Excuse my intrusion, I did search and someone thought the 13" wheels probably wouldn't go, but it wasn't definitive.

175/80 R13 tyres give the same diameter as the original 175/65 R15.

Yes, I agree, I see the offset also differs. 4x98 13" wheels are thin on the ground in Australia, I'd probably buy online and have them sent from Europe. The older pandas were not sold here, in fact I don't think any fiats were sold here for about 20 years, maybe 1983-2003?
 
As far as I can see the brake rotors are 257mm (254mm = 10 inches), so there should be a good inch and a bit for the caliper to fit.

The calipers are oem 51938102 (I think) and look like they'd fit.

The tyres are the problem, but do exist. 175/80 r13 van tyres. 1915mm circumference.

Original 175/65 r15 have 1910mm circumference.

It may be people say the 13" wheels don't fit because the tyres are too small.

I could be wrong.....
 
If you can get them locally, best bet might be 14" steel wheels from a 500 Pop, which should already be fitted with 175/65x14 tyres. They'll fit with no issues whatsoever and, in Europe at least, are readily available and cheap as chips.
 
With 14" and original tyres, the wheel loses an inch in diameter (lower speed at same revs) half an inch of ground clearance, I'd go for taller tyres.

There is a front wheel profile photo, it looks like there *might* be an inch to spare, coming down from 15 to 13.
 
My 100Hp has 257 discs and between callipers and 14" winterwheels is just enough space for a creditcard (maybe even less:D). 13" will not fit. Steelies from a 500 might be the way to go.
Although your screenname was a giveawy, I didn't realize you were in Oz:eek:
But not only the PDC, but the centralbore (is that the right word?) will be important. You need the weight to ride on the hub. Not on the 4 bolts. 500 steelies will fit with no problem.

You mean the inner clearance diameter of a pressed steel 13" wheel may be larger than that of a 13" cast alloy? Possible.

If you post on the vigorous Panda Classic forum you may find a willing helper who'll get the tape measure out. Alternative is to find an old steel 13" at a scrapyard. Easier over here I suspect.

As has been noted though - whilst you may get the right 58.1mm centre bored and 98PCD...........you still need a usable offset to avoid the wheels rubbing on the right-hand rear especially.
