Well, after months of messing around with different formulas to get my bloody Blue And Me to play my tracks on a memory stick in numerical order and not alphabetical (I’ve converted to MP3, tried WMA, they were already numbered but I tried mp3 tag too), I decided to replace the head unit. I purchased a single din Sony Media Centre head unit, a Fascia adapter, an aerial converter and I’m waiting on a steering wheel controls adapter!
£26 fascia
£69 Sony,
£13 (if I remember right) aerial adapter
And funnily enough a set of steering wheel adapter leads for around £63!!!!
So far, the sound is better than the ole unit (which I thought was great originally anyway), the gadgets are great (NFC, can connect 2 Bluetooth devices at once, app remote control, to name but a few!) so I’m really impressed so far![emoji3]
Hopefully I’ll be able to retain the steering wheel controls in due course!!

I think we'd all appreciate an image of how it looks. I've often wondered if it was practical.

Here it is, both fascia adapters I found on line were shiny black finish so no matching the rest of the dash! IMG_5168.JPG

Brillo pad or fine paper to take the gloss off. Otherwise, very neat looking job and for those wanting a simple bluetooth solution not an expensive job. Plenty of room behind there?

Course, what would REALLY set it off would be a nice walnut finish. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Haha, not sure about the walnut....but yes, there’s loooaaads of room behind the unit as it’s only about half the depth of a standard unit due to no CD player. As such it just sits in its metal housing! Once I get the adapter I’ll post a pic again, because the adapter (looks like a full loom) was almost as much as the unit itself!!! The App is quite handy for your passenger to DJ while you’re driving too![emoji3]

Looks great - I had the awful Blue & Me system on my Alfa and it was infuriating to try and play music - like you tried all sorts but it's a truly cr@p system of (non)integration.

Well, sadly the loom/converter didn’t work and connects 2 hasn’t got an adapter that has been tested on the ‘17 model yet. So it looks like for now I’ve lost the steering wheel controls! If you have an older model (pre 2012 I guess?) then this loom should work...the pic of the small attachment in my hand is the aerial, £12.99 to adapt that from Halfords!!!! (Can be found cheaper no doubt on Amazon)

Get a can of Plastidip to finish off the shiney bits. Really easy to use and you can't fail.

I could be wrong but don't autoleads make a universal remote control adapter that can be used to your wiring loom. Just a thought ?

I’ll look into it thanks![emoji3]

I contacted directly, they reckon they have an adapter that will work! £60, ordered through Halfords again (they only deal with trade), will let you know if it works in (hopefully) a few days!

You can get Matt black, they're the first ones I found on Amazon

I was completely frustrated by the way this system orders the tracks.

My way round it is to use MP3tag to add the track numbers to the beginning of the titles. This then plays the tracks in the correct order.

I did try mp3 tag, but it still played alphabetically, and you could see the numbering in place when reading it on a PC....so not sure what happened there...time will tell if my new adapter on order keeps the controls with the Sony headunit.!

Hi PP

You have to add the track numbers to the Title field (not the Filename). This is then treated as text and sorts in order. Apologies if that’s what you tried and it didn’t work for you.

Hi, it’s perfectly possible I didn’t do it correctly, but the other thing my fiat head unit won’t do is change albums/files from any head unit buttons. I can forward or reverse tracks but not albums. The only way is from the steering controls and the display between the speedo and rev counter. Basically my passenger can’t DJ, is that something you find too??? Again, it’s a 2017 car, the head unit is a CD player and the Blue and Me connector for aux and usb is between the seats!

Yes, I do think it's pretty ropey all round, I only ever use the steering wheel controls and quite often end up doing the opposite of what I meant to! I was just pleased to be able to play tracks in the right order

Ha, brilliant, yeah you would think in this day and age they would have a less niggly system! I’ve reduced the number of albums on the usb now, because if I want to change albums it’s endless scrolling while trying to keep my eyes on the road too! A great setup in theory, but in practice it’s lacking! I assume the Uconnect with the TomTom would be better.....
