Boring but true: had a Renault Zoe for 2 years, you could chuck whatever you wanted on a 32gb stick and it would play...iTunes, whatever, great system!

Well here’s the latest loom, looked more promising except it’s missing the ISO connector that is the steering wheel controls!!!! DOH! Waiting for AaMP to get back to me![emoji849] IMG_5778.JPG

Pete - any more info or tips on fitting this as I will almost certainly go this route.

Have you links for the fascia/adaptors etc?

Hi,

Well, the stereo is from Halfords, £69, the adapter was from Amazon (just look up stereo adapter, you’ll need to break off two big lugs if you get the one I got as once you remove the OEM unit there are 2 metal plates holding the dash trim on so the supposed adapter still needs adapting! What I’ll do is screen shot my purchase and those of adapters etc at the end of this. By that, I mean it’s still ongoing. After contact with Aamp and trying different settings on their loom, I’ve decided to take the car to them. 1 hour 20 mins from Bournemouth, they said they’ll get it working for me!!!! Fingers crossed! That’s tomorrow, so if all goes well I’ll show pics as much as I can etc afterwards! Wish me luck! (By the way, they say the larger white ISO connector is not relevant to the steering wheel controls due to the CanBus! I assume it might be for the USB and Aux connectors then......

It’s now working!!!!! Took the car to AAMP in Bordon and they did a software update to their box of tricks and a few other bits and my steering wheel controls now work!!!!!
The voice activation button just beeps, and the menu button actually selects the next album, but I’m happy with that (the original involves several menu options to get to the album list which I found laborious to use). The mute button literally mutes the music to very very quiet rather than pauses it as the oem unit used to. And to hang up the call you press the pick up button again but that’s a Sony thing as it is on the head unit! Also AAMP have set it up so the unit turns off with the key now (before, it stayed on and you long pressed the off button to switch it off, then it was a fumble in the dark [emoji15] to switch it on at night). Attached are pics of the whole kit and a screen shot of the fascia from Amazon (they are available cheaper). Hope this helps anyone else wanting to upgrade the standard kit! Sony was £69, wiring loom £60 and the aerial adapter £12.99 from Halfords. Obviously it cost me fuel too to get to AAMP and back, but it was worth it and they now have the info for others! Cheers!IMG_5885.JPGIMG_5886.JPGIMG_5887.JPG

Wish I still worked for Sony as I did in the 90's a graded head unit would have been coppers. I had a minidisc headunit in my Skoda Favorit and the 6 disc boot changer which was brilliant. Sony service centres sadly have long since gone.
Love your set up, well done.

If you don't have the steering wheel controls do you still need the loom? Isn't it all standard plugs now?

You’re right, just plug and play if no wheel controls (you have to swap the power lead though, basically the red piggy backs off the yellow...permanent 12v, but it comes ready for that option with a connector in situ). So for £69 it’s a great unit, but if you want radio it’s still an adapter as fiat use a weird connector I’ve not seen before!
Had a Sony 10 disc changer in a MINI (I’m talking old mini, not the Maxi of today!!!) 20 years ago, with a stalk controller too! Because it scanned ahead of what it was playing, that Sony never skipped any of the music, and with the minis suspension set up that was a small miracle in itself! I took that Sony on with me to other cars![emoji3]

I’ve had Kenwood units too so I’m not saying Sony is the best, and there are similar other units out there of course![emoji6]
