Hi. Can anyone help? The Engine warning light keeps coming up and display telling me to check handbook on my dashboard and after several times of turning engine off and on it will eventually go away.
I have been to the garage twice with it and each time they say they cannot find anything wrong. They say that they have plugged it in to see if there are any codes and shows none. This has happened several times. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what is causing it? Many thanks. Jane

Hi,
Is the garage a Fiat dealer or specialist? If not, they may not have adequate diagnostic equipment to read all faults. Marque specific softwae like Multiecuscan is required to read all fault codes.
You should also post in the forum section specfic to your age of panda nd tell us what engine you have.

Yes it is a Fiat Dealer and they just keep telling me they can find anything wrong....Have looked for Panda year specific and cant find it

If the light comes on,with a warning, there will be a code stored. I suggest you speak to the dealer principle and ask them to do the work again properly with all due respects. I can only say from experience and having ECUscan software that it has never failed to show a fault code after a warning has been seen. If the fault has cleared it still gives the detail but says Fault not present.

The Fiat equipment is however more sophisticated and gives more detail, so frankly I do not believe them when they say there are no stored codes. Why this is happening is puzzling as fixing any problem is work for them.

On the up side, if the car drives OK you can carry on until the light stays on. There are so many things that can cause the ECU light to illuminate its not possible to guess. Most issues are non critical. Check the oil and fluid levels are OK.

Try and pin point what the car was doing when the light comes on. How fast, what gear etc.

I had the same thing happen the engine light flashing briefly, then one time I caught sight in the multi function display where the trip miles and radio station are displayed. Something like "check rear number plate Light" can't remember exactly, but its only a quick flash and on checking there were no codes shown or stored. A new bulb and presto!
I'm not saying its your number plate bulb, I'm saying look at the multi function display when the engine light flashes, and be quick.

Might also be a weak battery. Mine is acting up in a similar fashion, and a visit to the dealer seems to indicate it likes to cry wolf in the cold. No codes stored, testing with a new battery fixed it. Since I didn't want to get a new one yet, I've resorted to disabling stop/start for the time being (which the dealer tech told would help to a degree).

Our 2015 MJ Trekking has this same issue occasionally and has shown it over the last couple of weeks. The car does it's start up checks and all lights go out. Then a little while later the yellow triangle of doom comes on but without a warning. It will stay on till engine stopped and next time it is started it will not reappear. It feels as it is the cold weather that does it. From the forum replies it feels as if it might be a low battery issue. Fluid levels ok.
Without a warning code it is difficult to know what to do. I'll give her a charge and see if that helps.

Just worked out the yellow triangle of doom is coming on (with a quick warning message) in this colder weather to indicate S/S is not available. We do not use it anyway.
I guess it is because the battery voltage is low when cold. Drive for 10 minutes or so and generally warm up and the yellow light does not come on on re-start. Starts healthily so I am happy there is no actual fault needing attention. Good!

Hi Jane. Any news on this..?

Have the dealers had it overnight..or has it always been driven over for a timed appointment.

All of the test gear should show voltage readings seen by the cars sensors..
WARM will be higher than COLD :)
