Hi All,

Had the above car for around 10 months now. Lovely car, last night however it seems to have developed a very annoying belt squeaking noise. It tends to do it under acceleration regardless of air con being on or off.

I couldn’t locate which belt it was specifically, I am hoping that it will be a well known fault with the car.

Could it of just been moisture on the belt? I am due to go out shortly so will see if it makes the noise again.

Cambelt and water pump were done earlier this year at 19k miles. Car currently has 26.5k on it.

Thanks

The only belt that slips and might make that noise is the main serpentine belt that runs the Alternator and I think also the A/C compressor (but I've not looked, specifically at a 1.2 with A/C). Not uncommon at this time of year, with the added load on the Alternator from electrically heated stuff and the like. Probably just needs adjusted, although the 'grip' from a modern 6 or 8-'V' serpentine belt is typically pretty good these days. Either way, the fault should be pretty obvious when inspected further I'd have thought.

I agree with the former replies. I have has this sort of problem before on a small Renault. In the end I changed the belt and the alternator pulley. If the belt has been slipping it will both polish and wear the pulleys and in the end it a major problem A specialist bet supplier might be able to supply an slightly over sized belt that will ride the pulleys better and resit slipping. Do also check the alternator and water pump are not hard to turn. Even new ones can develop a fault. Hope you crack it.
