I've recently done a 1200 kilometer trip to the seaside with the wife. Most of the distance covered was on the highway at around 120kph, while about 1/3 of the long distance drive included frustrating roadwork and frequent foot to the floor acceleration to overtake. Another third of the long distance portion of our trip was on the coastal road, which is basically a roller coaster (on which we still averaged about 90 kph). The "short distance" portion of the trip consisted of day trips on the aforementioned roller coaster of a coastal road, each of which required us to make the 300 meter climb from sea level to the main road on a winding (yet paved) access road with hairpins every 80 meters, to another location with similar access roads to get to the sea. Basically we had to cover 6-7 kilometers of road every day, where a good portion of that time was spent in first or second gear climbing hairpins with the throttle pinned. The instant consumption on the trip computer frequently hit 30 liters/100km.

I refrained from taking a peek at the overall consumption of the trip, but it felt like every time I looked down at the instantaneous consumption it was about twice as much as I would be comfortable with.

All things told, however, at the end of the trip the on-board computer is reading an average of 5.4L/100KM, which ends up around 52mpg. That's actually quite impressive considering the driving we were doing.:worship:
