General The number one city car falls short of the Panda

At the risk of sounding like a cliche here...everybody is right and everybody is wrong. My point is, it's like food, all a matter of taste, so there will be differences of opinions all round. I'm certainly not going to lambast any car, I tend to look at things holistically. I mean we are on a Fiat forum, so obviously out of the thousands that use this site there will be more than a fair share of bias.

Getting back to the point of the OP, sounding off because a certain car mag doesn't fit in with your thoughts ain't no big deal. You really should know how these things work by now. Again I say, life is just too short to get yourself in all of a stushie about such matters.

I have a new (less then 1100 Km on the clock) Nissan Micra as a loaner, now my Panda is being repaired, based on what ever is wrong with it.
This new Nissan Micra i not bad at all, it has the basic 999cc 3 cylinder engine in it, with 52 kW/71 hp and has a 945 kg dry weight, 1045 kg drive ready.
It is not that quick but the 3 cylinder drive much better then the VW up!'s 3 cylinder.
The inside, i like as well, the blue interior parts are Beigé in my loaner.
Although i would probably choose the 90 hp turbo version if i ever would decide to buy one. :D
This car give a good impression off how a Panda 3 cilinder could drive.

Can't deny that the new Micra looks pretty darn hot! In my opinion they should have dropped the Micra name.... the stigma will stump sales.

Another car with a stupid kinked-up rear 3/4 panel. Bet it's got lousy visibility out of the rear. For an even more egregious example of the breed, check out the new Volvo XC40.

What I don't get is why Nissan have made the Micra look like a shrunken Vauxhall Astra?! :/

And here lies the the essence of my point I made earlier. I'm not saying you are right or wrong here. Oranges are not the only fruit it has been said. One of my vehicles is an old Vauxhall diesel, used as a cheap work horse. I joined a certain forum just for technical & mechanical information. The realisation slapped me in the face when I went deeper into that forum, they slagged everything to death, including each other. Now I'm no prude & I like a bit of craic, the language was shocking. I think we all know that Fiat gets slagged off in many car related forums, but this one just went over the top. I'm no longer a member..:D

Again I will say, if you go looking on other sites you will come across all sorts of negativity regarding ANY car make, stories in abundance of breakdowns bad workmanship, the list goes on. I could on, but this just my thoughts....:)

It's a blatant copy, lol! ? I hope Vauxhall weren't hoping to make the next Corsa look like a shrunken Astra again, like they did with the original Mk3, lol!

Lots of similar cars out there at the moment, manufacturers tend to play safe for a reason. They are in the business of making money.
I understand that, but this is Nissan, whose eye torturing Puke sells like hot cakes, so you'd imagine they'd create something a bit more original.

In your view! Nissan sells cars across the board, for young & old tastes. As I said it's like food. Your choice of words lead me to think you are a young chap....:D Obviously there are vehicles out there that don't fit in with everyone's taste & that includes myself. I'm only speaking about Nissan for instance because you have mentioned your feelings towards them. Move on to something you like. Obviously someone likes them, as you've pointed out they sell like hotcakes ;) What about the Nissan GTR? different animal I know. On the other side, Nissan Dukes in abundance driven by women of a certain age round here.

At the end of the day people will buy what they want/afford. Let's face it most of the car owners that drive middle of the road vehicles that are relatively cheap on any forum would drive something more exotic if they were in a position to do so. In saying that my Son In Law in his late 30's tells me most of his friends, married/single who drive things from SUVs to Audi & more, either lease them or are up to their neck in debt. Certainly not having a go here, I'm just open to the bigger picture.

The reason I love the Panda - and any Fiat really - is because they’re efficient, small and cheap to buy cars that happen to be cheap to run and easy to fix. But on top of that, despite the low cost they make extremely rational and functional designs. Certainly cars like the Panda from the first model were designed solely with practicality in mind! They don’t seem to fall apart very easily, there’s no creaking plastic in sight (on my ‘05 anyway). They don’t make stupid designs like Vauxhall did on the 2006 Corsa or Citroen do on most of their models that make basic repairs a PITA. They take scratches, dents and abuse so so well and they don’t keep their owners up at night worrying about resale value, debts, the cost of fuel, how they’ll park it at the side of a busy street or dents and scratches. They don’t look like the design was aspired from yet-another-aggressive-looking car. And their focus is completely in different areas... I mean, a 4x4 city car? Turns out.. that’s a damn good and commercially successful model. Who else does that? And bringing back an iconic car like the 500.. sure, lot’s of companies do that: the Beetle, the Mini, the Mustang... But those are ridiculous, overpriced and oversized cars that, let’s face it, housewives and spoilt girls in their 20s get despite the countless design flaws and blatant sense of ‘you got nothing for your money’ that oozes from the very sight of those cars. At least the 500 is practical, efficient and easy to run. It’s an actual successor of it’s original ancestor car.

Fair play to Fiat, with the Tipo and Argo if that helps on the balance sheet, but it’d be a shame if we ended up with a complete range of bland, German inspired cars.. But with the Panda already out selling the VW Balls Up! I hope someone there sees the potential in the unusual and very Italian styled models like the current Panda and keep em coming for years yet. Speech done lol

My daughters first car was an early Micra, great we thing, no power steering but a tank of a car, never thought I would see the day when 17inch alloys would be an option though

My Ideal Panda though would have a 1.8 turbo diesel power plant, slightly wider track and 5 instead of 6 gears, leave the rest alone.
