Hi guys..I am wanting to change the spark plugs on my TA.Just routine service .Can anyone tell me what size socket i need.I think the sparks are OE factory ones.Thanks.

What appears to be the best plug key for these is the Laser 3682.
It's 250mm long, 3/8 drive magnetic plug socket that fits perfectly down the small holes the plugs are fitted.

Anything fatter and shorter just won't fit and as it's magnetic, you won't have trouble fishing them out of the holes after.

You also need to think about the clip on the air intake hose from the airbox/engine cover (front left of the engine cover).

It's a funny R Clip clamp that squeezes together and hooks over a bump/nipple.
They can be flicked open with a screwdriver, but you'll need to either replace it with a large jubilee clip or if you're refitting it, you need some R Clip pliers (around £5).

I noticed in the pics on the 500 spark plug guide the chap uses a short plug socket and a few extension bars.looks like this does the job. As servicing is so spread out i dont want to spend a fortune on a socket that dont get much use.

Iridium plugs aren't any more than normal ones. As they could last 5 years, take it to someone to do it. My mechanic did free of charge check few months ago of air filter and plugs. He did my oil change last Friday and that only took half an hour including taking air box off so he had more room and turning car round to put in the workshop backwards. As I've probably said before Phil, just stick to very simple maintenance you can comfortably do couple of times a year without having to buy anything specially.

I have everything to hand for a oil and filter change.I will let a trusted garaged to change the plugs i cant justifi buying tools to used once a year like i said.A least the cost of plug spanner will go the garages labour charge.
