Oil spec, does it matter?

My TA 4x4 in for oil change next Friday. Mechanic claims all his suppliers came up with 5w40 C3 oil. I mentioned 0w30 C2 when I booked it in. As oil will be changed in 4 months/8k miles anyway and I don't want to fall out with him, doubt engine going to fail in warmer weather. Any thoughts anyone? It has wanted for nothing and hasn't used a drop.

Yes, wrong oil and the engine will die in due time.

I'd say stick to what's recommended. The TA uses different technology to more conventional set ups so don't take the chance use the correct spec of oil.

Re: Oil spec, does it matter?

Depends if Euro 5, Euro 6 spec!!
Euro 6 is meant to be 0w/30. Changed over @ 2014!!
Confusing but believe these engines are like multi-air can go Pete Tong if you use wrong spec!! Quite a few threads on this in this site!!

Re: Oil spec, does it matter?

Earlier TA's were Euro 5 and used 5w40, after Jan 2014 they changed to Euro 6 and required 0W30, afaik its recommended now that all ta's use 0W30. If it was me I'd use 0W30 selenia digitek

Thanks to all. Car September '13. Been run on 5w 40 until last August I suspect, and not had an issue. Car may go into Fiat at end of the summer for service and MOT, depends whether need a loan car. Am sure will be fine.
