I have the benefit of owning a barn, sadly it's an hour's drive from my house, so not easy to work on cars in storage there, but one day...

I'm not very good at selling cars.

As for the rest, that's the joys of motoring on a budget while living in the middle of nowhere

T reg Honda Civic 1.4s in maroon - tank, say no more!
59 plate 500 1.2 Pop - my first official car once I'd been working for a good while, no student banger for me
12 plate Panda 1.2 Easy - great little car but not as loved as the 500.
62 plate Punto 1.4 Easy - competent and lovely metallic petrol blue colour, but that's about it.
13 plate 500 1.2 Colour Therapy in blue - wife and I liked that one, few more gremlins than the first 500
14 plate Fiesta 1.25 Zetec - very nice motor, if lacking in that Fiat small car character

Just noticed I've never been in possession of a car with a bigger motor than a 1.4 petrol!

Probably missed something off!

Learned to drive in my father's VW Jetta, the boxy one, petrol.

For a few years, did not own a car, then company cars came, all of them diesel:
- VW Polo
- a few Golf V
- VW Jetta
- Seat Leon (1st gen)
- Seat Leon (2nd gen)
- Skoda Superb

Mrs perelaar had some kind of Renault Clio as company car, after that a 1st gen Mercedes B-class (horrible car!!) and a BMW X1 with X-drive.

After that, bought our own cars. First a 2nd gen Seat Leon, now driving a Seat Leon ST FR as family car.
For my own use on our shoot I had a Nissan Terrano II 2.7 TDI for 4 years, now while waiting for delivery of the Panda Cross I'm driving our shoot's small Nissan Kubistar van.

Mini 850 purchased as £50 runner that had been hand sprayed (aerosol cans) in some or other FORD blue and had been driven into a tree. Pulled bump out by tying to tree and reversing off – seemed fair, and could then get bonnet to latch shut
MG Midget £300 from Exchange and Mart; had A series engine which got cooked by usual failure of by pass hose (alerted by the sound of frying oil at a junction since capillary temp gauge didn’t work) pistons got a bit squeezed in the bore but put back together and seemed none the worse…
Original T reg 1275 GT mini clubman with Denovo tyres that tried to kill me (rolled into ditch) may have been due to some driver input…
Replaced with (donated, well cost me a box of wine) Alfa Sud Sprint Veloce – lurvely but was already rotten when I got it (BGS ***X) Loved this car and transplanted all that lovely hardware into a Minari Sprint kit car which still resides in my Mum’s garage having been on the road until my kids came along 20 years ago (gulp)
FIAT X1/9 1.5 just as impractical but loved the targa roof. Sold on for…
Lancia Beta 2.0 sports hatch or whatever they called it; fuel injected and sooo comfortable, had rot issues…
1985 Alfa GTV V6 superb cruiser was rear ended by local butcher – got repaired and sold on immediately as had offer for £1k more than paid for it – tragic loss but had the potential for becoming a money pit
Volvo 940 Estate 2.3 LPT, like driving your favorite sofa 1998 last of the line bought at 3 years old and still in my ownership 175k miles used as tow car for dinghy
Alfa 147 02 plate 1.6 Lusso; my first (and only) NEW car! Loved it, got to 140k miles and it knocked the crankshaft oil seal out going around a roundabout dumping oil on the road – costs were such to make good that it was donated to my son’s engineering dept at school
FIAT Panda 319 4x4 TA 63 plate bought at 3 years old – loving the character and sure footed 4x4 behaviour and reasonable insurance for teenage daughter to drive
Mercedes E class 270 53 plate bought in anticipation of Volvo demise yet no it carries on – yey! Currently worth twice what I paid for it thanks to government persecution of aged diesels and thinking of trading for something electric… watch this space.

Is the Minari the one that looks a bit like a Barchetta from the front (although not as pretty, of course) and a mk1 MX5 from the back?

I still miss my Alfa Sprint. If only they hadn't made the bodies out of used tinfoil.

Yep, that's the one. Used Mazda 121 rear lights and MX3 (?) tear drop shape headlights.

The guys that designed it did a pretty good job I fitted X1/9 leather seats but my level of internal trimming of the rest let it down a bit. I still have it garaged and keep promising myself that I'd revisit it in a "money no object" refurb, trouble is not sure I can afford that approach!

Two that slipped the net - Renault 5 GTL, banana yellow, really smooth motor way cruiser with 5 speed box and I think 1.4l engine. Paid for itself time and again racking up mileage for work - not sure what happened to it in the end.

Also a couple of A35s that "borrowed" parts from the midget... Strange but I kind of miss them


Finally a Ford Escort 1.6 8valve that was simply horrible, no PAS slow as hell kind of persuaded to buy by mother-in-law; I should have known better... It was traded for the Volvo
