Hello, I have tried my OBD fault code reader in my new Panda and it dosen't seem compatible.
Although it works with the other cars in our family I notice the pin-outs in the Pands's OBD socket are not supported by the (very cheap) unit that I have.
Can anyone recommend an inexpensive solution to pull the codes from a Panda?

Many thanks

P.S......forgot to mention, this is my first post as I'm new to Fiat motoring apart from owning a Cinquecento Sporting some years back which was a fun little car.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Do you intend doing your own servicing and repairs? If so it is worth considering a more comprehensive diagnostic system. There is excellent software called Multiecuscan (MES) http://www.multiecuscan.net/ that is Fiat specific and does much more than a simple reader, virtually everything the official Fiat system does. The software costs 50 euros and you need a ELM 327 interface and a yellow (no.3) adaptor lead for a late model panda. This lead http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281563281937? and adaptor set http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301231120324? will do the trick. I've used this seller and whil I've NOT used it, their code readr http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302034241697? is probably OK too is you just want a handheld reader. You also need a laptop running windows XP or newer to run MES. You can download a trial version of MES and play with it without a lead or car, just use "simulate" instead of connect"

That's great, thank you.

I do my own basic servicing and I've always found it handy to have a reader to pull codes and diagnose problems.
The multiecuscan looks very comprehensive but I don't actually have a laptop, just a desktop and some android portables. The handheld reader might be worth a punt if it is compatible with the Panda, so I might give it a shot.

Anyone had any luck with a bluetooth device and that app called 'Torque'? Panda compatible??

Hi,
Torque works for basic stuff but gives wrong readings on some Fiats, not sure if this includes the Panda. There is another application, AlfaOBD http://www.alfaobd.com/ that will run on Android devices. Typically used with a Bluetooth ELM327 interface, but USB is more reliable if your device supports it. you still need the yellow lead.
Any old laptop will work for MES though, I've even used a 10 year old Sony one that was on FreeCycle so cost nothing. Dell Lattitude D620 (and similar in series) work well with MES too. A cheap one has the advantage of less loss if you have an accident in the garage.

Thanks Robert.
I've been watching the thread with interest, nice to see there are a couple of options, downloaded both and I'll have a play next week.
Question..... Do either reset the service indicator in demo mode and if not what would you go for?

Hi,
You can't reset the service indicator in a 2012 or later Pandawith MES in demo mode (you can pre 2012). If you look at the compatibility list
http://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx
functions in black text can be done in demo, red must be registered.
I'm pretty sure you can't reset service in AlfaOBD demo either.

My personal choice is MES but that's no reflection on AlfaOBD.
