I think the designs are loosing the DNA of the Panda a little bit. The Panda design spec should always be something boxy, cheap and happy. I like the higher driving position as well so it would be shame to loose that and keeping the ride hight as it is currently also improve interior space.

Is there any actual rumours on when we might see a new Panda at a motorshow? I'm guessing next summer to autumn time if it is out for the start of 2019.

I don't expect to see anything before 2019. ;)

Any new Panda will have to be built on a platform that can be shared with another car (that currently means the 500). It is currently built in Italy, which means that a straight successor would have to be reasonably high spec' in order to keep it profitable... so basing it on a Brazilian car is a non-starter.

Depending on what Tofas does, there may be scope to base it on a future Doblo/Fiorino/possibly a re-architectured Tipo and build it in Turkey.... but this points to it being more "utility" than at the moment (and maybe a bit further towards the original or Mk2/ 3? Panda concept).

It can't go all Evo'.. the Panda sells because it is cheap and simple... so the only things advanced or improved about it will be structural strength (for the evolving more stringent crash tests) and engines (i.e. for emissions).

I think it will very likely stick to the no-frills recipe.. but with more contemporary "2019" styling. It looks like Fiat Mobi (below) and Uno are going a bit "Range Rover Discovery".. so I suspect a new Panda could share the same sort of look.

I'm sure I've read (though please correct me) that the next Panda will not be built in Italy (possibly going back to Poland??)

My bet is that it will look more like the Mobi/Argo/Tipo. I like the Mobi, especially the 'Way' versions which are pleasingly chunky.

Whether the Argo will also make it to Europe is an interesting question. I suspect yes, but with a new name to avoid confusion withn the Toyota Aygo. Any bets on Uno?

The next Panda will be 100% certain build in Poland again.
Alfa Romeo need the factory, where the Panda is build now.

Yes, I read that Panda production might move abroad but I don't think it's a done deal that it'll be built in Poland.

On the other hand, the Brazilian Argo-Mobi (which would be a good name for a footballer) is an evolved but older platform and might not be quite up to European tastes ("safety" will be okay but "refinement" would need some work).

Meanwhile Fiat is procrastinating (just 5 years!) what to do re. a Grande Punto replacement... (not to be confused with the older "Punto-proper" platform under the Argo-Mobi) so it may eventually bite the bullet and develop a proper new one.... rival for Polo/Fiesta/Corsa etc. so it has to be good... and that might mean using the same bits for a new Panda too (for economies of scale).

In that case; a) Panda will continue to evolve into a more sophisticated and premium/desirable car in the mould of the 500.... and become less of the utilitarian workhorse of its Mk1/2 forebears... (it's got enough "brand" to pull that off) and b) That would leave a gap in the very bottom of the range for a cheap, no nonsense utilitarian workhorse (which Argo/Mobi could fill).

Mobi's "rival" in Brazil and India is a Renault Kwid ... which is a Dacia (nee Renault) Sandero with a Renault badge... for the want of a better description. If Dacia (Renault) sells Sandero in Europe then Fiat might be tempted to bring in Mobi.

On the other hand.. just any new Fiat would be welcome to see at the moment. It's all been a bit too quiet for a while.. :)

I hope the Panda stays cheap, utilitarian but with the evolution of time of course, get that bit more refined and comfy as every car has over the decades.

Please Fiat, if you're reading this don't make it so much as a MM bigger!

Otherwise you'll end up with people comparing it to cars from the class above and that won't go favourable on sales?!

Who cares what it looks like. As long as it fits in a normal sized parking space and you can open the doors on both sides, as long as it has ,if petrol powered, a four cylinder engine and the option of a dual clutch auto, and doesn't have expensive attention distracting add ons, I'll put my name down for one tomorrow.
I've had a few but the best was the 1980s flat screen , went everywhere, carried anything .... Please Fiat , keep it a basic runaround, if you make one...
