So why should I buy a Sat Nav when the phone does it all and very well indeed?

I wasn't arguing against this particular application, I was challenging the assertion that a smartphone replaces purpose-built devices like for like. I recently bought an iPhone after sticking with a 'phone' phone for years and yes, it's a nice gadget that puts the internet in my pocket but it's a huge compromise in many of the things it does. As a camera, for example, it's an ergonomic disaster and takes crap photos. It's also kind of hard to read outdoors.

It really depends what you expect. I phones in my view are overpriced and as actual phones far from brilliant. Being a Linux fan I am more at home with Android so I get the best out of them.
Let's be quite honest you'd hardy be able to take the tv out of the house and watch it in bright sunlight would you? Asking a small device that runs on a battery to give sufficient screen brightness in daylight is actually pushing the boat out a bit too far, just ask your boffin mate.
Personally having separate devices like a mobile, sat nav and dash can in the car is distracting and as an advanced driver I don't advocate it, having all in the one device to my mind is safer, I do though never use my mobile in the car full stop.

I have the dedicated TomTom unit for my Panda Cross 2016 with Blue and Me. It's OK but I find Google Maps on my Samsung Note 4 phone far superior in function and ease of use. I only continue to use the TomTom as it's more convenient in it's powered cradle. All the power sockets , USB or lighter style, are too far from the dash to be easily usable.

I hoped Fiat would make a general purpose cradle that fits in that socket, but there's nothing I can find.
