My Angry Panda is 2 next month.

I understand the third year warranty isn't particularly good and has more holes in it than a tea strainer?

I can't see us moving it on in the foreseeable future so I was wondering if FIAT offer an extended warranty & if anyone has done this?

I know getting the car serviced by FIAT gives you free breakdown cover but I'm more concerned, not that I have any reason to be, about a warranty for year 4 and 5.

Cheers,

Simon

It's probably a regional thing. The official Fiat distributor in Turkey is Birmot, and they have a 4th, 5th, and 4+5th year warranty plan for all Fiats. I already extended the warranty on my 2012 MJ 4x4 once, and it paid for itself when the heater core was replaced. I was on the fence on extending it again, but seeing as how much I love thrashing the car (spent a good 15 minutes doing parking lot donuts in the snow two days ago) I've extended it again. The actual coverage, as you've indicated, might not be the same everywhere. That being said, when the smaller niggles add up (like the heater core, then a broken wiper washer fluid hose) being able to get them sorted under warranty is a boon.

I have had the benefit of the third year dealer backed warranty on two cars and have found they treated things exactly the same as in years 1 & 2. I suppose a good dealer will treat people properly and to their credit Desira in Norwich seem very good at this , if pricey.

I paid out for a 4th year on my Panda 100 and was told the guarantee was on the same basis. However when I tried to claim for the rattling suspension it was turned down and it turns out this was an insurance based product which I would not really recommend. I did have both window regulators changed which gave some value but it would have been cheaper to pay out for these. I suppose you pay for catastrophe insurance / peace of mind.

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but does anyone have any up-to-date info on the cost of an extended warranty? My Cross is 3 next weekend (same b'day as me, except I'm a wee bit older ;))

Yes, but what happens when the warranty runs out again in a couple years? Not only do we not come with warranties, but aftermarket kidneys are very expensive and have all sorts of fitment issues.

In all seriousness though, the extended warranty makes sense if you have a higher expectation of failure for expensive components such as the heater core (if you live in the cold), certain engine components (EGR valve if you have a short commute), 4x4 system (diffs, shafts, bearings etc. if you actually go off road) etc. Otherwise, most components can be matched from breaker yards etc for cheaper, and a lot of the things that do go wrong (main driveshaft bearing, wheel hub bearings, suspension bushings etc.) are not covered by the warranty as they're considered 'wear items'.
