It seems that I did in fact convey the heated and camera-festooned message over to Autoglass about my replacement windscreen, as the new one is a Fiat original, with exactly the same markings - including the previously unknown-to-me 'Acoustic' type. The Autoglass chap was excellent and you'd genuinely never know that the screen had been changed. The crack is of course no more and both sides now heat nicely, suggesting that the growing crack was indeed to blame for the aforementioned malady.
