Thinking it might be a worthwhile investment to install cameras into my Mk 4 Pandas in case of any prangs. With so many idiots driving while on their 'phones etc. the incidence of minor knocks seems to be going up and I don't want to shoulder even half the blame for someone else's stupidity.

Rant over, is it straightforward to wire in a device like a camera? Where would I look to connect the wires? Electrics is not my strong point, but I'd like to have a go.

Also, one of the cameras I've noticed – Road Angel – has front and rear facing cameras which makes a lot of sense? Anyone got experience of these or can recommend a make to go for?

I've done it with a fuse tap (fuse piggyback) in a couple of Pandas.

Behind the glovebox. through a flap is one of the fuseboxes.

Fuse F51 is a switched live, so becomes live when the ignition is switched on and dead when switched off.

I used the tap and connected it to a power socket (cig lighter) and left that in the glovebox.

The cable from the cam runs along the top of the windcreen, tucked up in the headlining, then down to the top of the A pillar trim, tucked into the top edge, then in behind the door seal to just below the level of the glove box, all neat and tidy and simple to remove when I move the car on.

Dash cams come in various sizes and shapes, have a look at https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/

I went with a couple of A118c's as they fit perfect next to the mirror on the blacked out part and can hardly be seen from the outside.

For a fit and forget camera, look for one with capacitors rather than batteries as they tend to get hot and it can become very hot in the window of a car!
