Re: What did you do with your Panda today?

Finally got around to getting summer tyres. Spent a lot of time considering whether to get something more knobbly to go off road (I was considering Michelin Latitude Cross on the high end, Sava Adapto on the low end), but the limited selection of tyres here in sizes that fit, along with the price of those that did meant I went for more a more conventional set. While I'm really happy with the Conti TS860 winters (even in the summer heat), the Premium Contact 6 isn't yet available here, do I decided on Bridgestone T005. While I wanted them in XL specification to be able to load up the Panda and for the extra protection ply layers that reduce the chance of a puncture while off road, they couldn't get them in before I had a long road trip planned, so I opted for the regular model in 185/65/15. I'll write up a detailed review on them if there's enough demand but suffice to say on a 2000km road trip through the Taurus mountains down to the Mediterranean and back, they've been exceptional on road, and acceptable off road. Here are a few clips from the journey:

Edit: I'm sorry in advance for the vertical video. I teach film at a university but simply can't teach the missus the error of her ways.

While the narrow on-road sections of this canyon road were quite demanding, the tyres really impressed on the more open, faster but equally bendy highway sections of the Taurus pass such as the section in the photo. One truly testing moment was a 110kph downhill overtake of a bus through a long, sweeping hairpin with gravel on the outside edge. I had already started the overtake when we came up to the bend, and hitting the brakes while entering would have slid the rear out possibly sending me into the bus, while trying to go any faster before the bend would have me coming in too hot and possibly cutting off the bus which would have no choice but to drive into me. I had to maintain a steady (or even accelerating) 100kph speed or risk understeering into the guard rail or oversteering into the bus, so I went for it on a partial throttle. While there was no squealing or ESC intervention, I could feel I was at the limit of grip throughout the bend and right around the corner exit I had my doubts either end of the car would be able to hold on any longer. It was a poorly judged and risky move on my part and while I take full responsibility for that, the level of confidence the tyres inspire (especially after years of using all-seasons, off-road oriented or winter tyres) actually had a notable impact (reduction) in our total transit time as both the wife and I could maintain more speed throughout longer sections of what would normally be a 7 hour 30 minute (average of both directions of 560km) journey (we managed to shave off about 30-40 minutes from the total time in both directions, and considering about 2 hours of this trip is spent going through the Taurus mountains, maintaining an average speed through this section that is around 40kph higher than the previous average greatly reduced the total travel time.

Anyhow, the wife and I have both agreed as we previously have that we're highly unlikely to ever sell the Panda once again after this trip.

Trailer now renovated, so to to the tip with a monster load of Leylandii. The front hedge is going so I can miss cutting it without the risk of a 50' job developing.

LED trailer lights work fine with the CAN bus system and they are sealed so shouldn't fill up with water! Australian designed so hopefully tough.

Still pleased with the Supagard treatment, car has now been washed twice in two months. For me that's total neglect. White cars definitely show dirt less than dark blue ones.

Re: What did you do with your Panda today?

I drove it to the Ford Dealer and traded it in on a 2018 Ford Fiesta ST Line in Chrome Blue with lots of options(Bang&Olufsen, 18 inch wheels, privacy glass, fancy DRL's etc).
I must say with a bit of pain in my hart but now the Panda is still worth a little bit and I never had any costs but normal maintenance.

Well I've got more then that in this deal(5335)but also got offers way below 4000 as well.At the end of the day it all comes down on what you have to pay extra to get the other car. I also looked at the Hyundai Kona Comfort wich rode realy well and looks very cool to me on the outside but the interior is just horrible plain black plastic(the inside of the Panda is a nicer place to be in).
I'm taking the pink wheels off tomorrow so if you're interested... 😉

Checked for more car park dings..

Annoying.. but knew it would be an issue.. thats why we chose a 2013 car.. not the 2017's we first looked at.

The 2004 had this many in 15 years.. not 5 weeks.

Nah. It's only worth thoroughly cleaning it just before you sell it.

Re: What did you do with your Panda today?

Went to buy touch up paint. It appears the car has been labelled with the wrong code! Well done Fiat.... again. Desira are on the case for me so hope it turns out to 541 as its not 509A.

Nupe is now a Viscount by nature of the new red roof bars £70 on eBay!!!! Next best price was £180. so I am well pleased, it does brighten up the white paint look.Still trying to get Fiat to confirm the car is 90bhp. I have now asked for compensation as the logbook says 62KW which is what the 85bhp model had. I think that will sharpen their act as its months since I asked for clarification.

Ruby joined the fleet a couple of weeks ago as the Bravo gearbox bearings started to groan and it was traded in. Rubes is a Purple 1.2 Lounge with Supagard on the paint. She looks brand new asd so far seems a decent buy. A service contract was done today. I am a convert to the paint treatments. They definitely stay clean much longer adn make the cars look polished when they aint! - Wonderful. One more car to go and we will have a full house of Pandas.

Re: What did you do with your Panda today?

Well the 4x4 does pull the caravan, needs must! So a short run to a dry site was done. Out of the swamp up a steep slope and 25 miles through flooded roads to a very wet site and not a hint of a problem. Caravan goes to the scrap yard this week so they can collect! I may find and buy a very light weight van thats in the acceptable range for future use as the car can clearly handle the job without fuss.

Each to their own dear chap.. I suffer OCD (car) and just have to have the showroom look. As this affliction affects the 3 Pandas I spend my life wasting time doing a job I hate.... Hence my new love of Supagard.
