If you go to a main dealer, then a new remote, coded to the car, will be around £200-£250; perhaps half that for a non-remote. You'll likely need to produce your V5C to the dealer when ordering the key; it'll take a few days to arrive, but reprogramming should take no more than 15 mins.

Third party companies may be able to offer a non-remote aftermarket key for aroud £75 or so.

Waiting 7 days to see if it turns up sounds like a good plan to me.

thanks for the info ,as I said will wait 7 days then will have to order new one but will contact my dealer tomorrow to make sure he knows ,lets hope I will be able to use the old spare key and a new remote key

thanks

If you go the main dealer route, they will reprogram the car's body computer to accept both the new remote key and your existing non-remote key and all will be as it was before. Check any insurance policies you might have that could cover some or all of the cost of replacing lost keys.

With my previous Panda I had to get a new remote key, and yes, couple of hundred pounds and a 15 minute programming task. But, they needed the ISR paperwork (the security register which relates to the numbers etched into the car windows). You should have been registered by the dealer when you buy the car new - but as mine was pre-owned, I didn't have that - easy to get, but required a further fee of I think £25 to arrange and transfer to me. (On reprogramming, they apparently also 'programme out' the old key, so if you do find it later, although it will operate the lock, it will not start the car or unlock remotely.)

Yep, my insurance definitely including loss of key cover. That's with post office (cheapest 2nd year in a row)

But an insurance claim usually means paying an excess, and losing at least some of your no-claims, so for a few hundred ££ it may be a false economy to claim.

Always worth asking. Here, nearly all policies include 1 free windscreen a year (ie, no penalty). I don't know about these stupidly priced keys but it's worth asking, you can always decline the offer to make the insurance company richer.

HELP! My daughters have lost both of their remote keys for their 2012 fiat 500 sport.
I purchased the car new and have the key code - mechanical code card.
I am getting mixed information as to whether we can get a key only for now and pray that one of the remotes shows up. Does anyone know if we can get just a key that we could use for now which I can order online? Car in Boston, Dad (me) in Chicago.
Thank you in advance

If the US cars use the same key system as the european ones, then the car's body computer will have to be programmed to accept the new key - whoever provides the key will need physical access to the car to do this before the key can be used to start it.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear.

Also, you've posted in the Panda section; this really should be with the 500's.

Not necessarily, depends upon the company. Most don't penalise you for glass claims, and a few don't for keys either - so no excess or NCD loss (y)

You poor guy, I would guess most of us who have brought up daughters, slapped their collective foreheads and sighed in genuine sympathy, hope all comes good for you.

My daughters have also had blonde moments behind the wheel - my wife's Volvo has the battle scars to prove it - and neither of them is in fact blonde!

Aaaarrrrgh. My daughter is about to turn 15 so that's just over 12 months before I cop all this. My son was bad enough (Dad, I've run out of petrol - Dad, the clutch is broken - Dad, the car won't start when I turn the key - Dad, ...).

Yes make sure they program your spare at the same time if you get a new remote from the dealers. As all keys are cleared from the system when programming a new one. Only the keys added during the programming procedure new or old will work after. Any keys not introduced to the car at this point will be blocked permanently and can't be added again later.

Well they must be capable of being reintroduced at a later date, or what you've said wouldn't work about reintroducing any existing key you've got to have at the time of the new key being programmed to the car.......

The system will allow existing keys to be programmed in during the programming procedure. But any existing keys that are not programmed at this time are added to a block list in the cars memory. So If they are missed out then that's it for that key.

just went to the dealers today Paid £178 for new Key that could come in 5 days time ,Will have to pay another £40 as do not have my Code that's used for programming the Keys But I don't mind ,They should be able to reprograme both keys ,Atleast this gives me piece of mind that I will have a spare

That £40 is a con, it should be £15+VAT only!

IIRC Sturgess Motor Group can get you this over the web for this price, so might be worth a PM and see what they need in order to be able to provide the code (y)
