General Panda V New Aygo

My Daughter bought a nearly new Aygo two weeks ago. The car for a small car is stunning to look at and very well equipped, with Dabs radio, USB Bluetooth the list goes on, revising camera, touch screen interface and loads of other gadgets Including a speed limiter and AC


The ride is solid but the 1.0 engine is flaky on acceleration. Gears nice and tight and feels good, daughter loves it and it is a nice small car with stunning looks. I am a big guy, so driving it is ok, not great but ok for comfort

I have a Panda 1.2 Pop, yes it is bottom of the range, but feel basics like remote central looking should be standard, as it is on the Aygo. As for driving i have to say the Panda feels better through the gears and seating position is better, a much more comfortable drive. For me the Aygo is a better looking car with better spec, but the Panda is just a nicer car to drive. From the ride, to comfort to gear change and handling.

I think the new Aygo is striking. Looks much better then the C1 or Peugeot siblings.


I've had a few Citroen c1's with the 1.0 3cyl motor. I don't know if the Toyota is still using the same motor, but if you absolutely wring the neck out of it, the car flies. It would give a twin air a run for its money.
I'd have one, but the 4 seats are not quite enough for me.

We got an Aygo for our daughter when she passed her test around four years ago.

She had the one with rear doors, and it was an auto.

Plus points were that it was made to be cheap, as opposed to cheaply made- I think that James May used that expression.

Long story short it meant that the Aygo was in about as low an insurance group as you could get, and it was only £20 for the 'road tax'.

It wasn't a bad car and the three cylinder engine was quite characterful, but I wouldn't have wanted to take it on a long journey as I would have found it quite tiring.

The Aygo has now gone and my daughter now has the TwinAir 500 handed down by my wife, who now drives the Panda 4x4.

I far prefer the TwinAir engine to that of the Aygo- there seems to be more power and torque available- probably because there is!

The Aygo is still a worthy car and the new styling probably appeals to the younger ones.

Only with the PSA 1.2ltr, 82 hp Puretech engine.

The Aygo has only a 69 hp engine. (PSA ??)

My Panda has only four seats, IE two seat belts in the back, but an option to fit another i think. The Aygo only has one engine option 1.0 and the other two cars C1 and 107 have that but the option of bigger engines.

As for long journeys the Panda would be far better in comfort and engine noice etc

Yes 5 seats are optional in Panda.

The other thing I remember about my C1's was that you could get near 70mph in second gear. I'd need 4th in my panda.
