Last 2 weeks i noticed at the official Greek FIAT site an option for Panda 4x4 MTJ 95 hp. The choise is not clickable but near the model choice "1.3 MTJ 95hp Climbing" there is an "i" that when u pass the cursor, u see different motor characteristics of this model. Any ideas?.....dont see any thread of yours for "NEW" or "IMPROOVED" 1.3 MTJ engine

I wonder if it keeps the 5 speed box or gets a six speed one?
 
Think its still 5speed and cant imagine how noisy that will be, cause with 75 hp above 75-80 mph the simple diesel 4x4, was a real noisy car
 
What's in more interesting is that the Italian Fiat website only shows the MJ engine in the 4x4 - not the TwinAir? http://www.fiat.it/it/panda-4x4/motori-specifiche-tecniche.

And (as I've mentioned before) the first gear in the Twin Air is teh 'extra' gear, providing the low speed pulling power (making up for the lower torque compared to the diesel) - the top (fifth) gear in the 4x4 MJ is already higher than sixth in the TA.

This DOESNT meen that diesel panda DOESNT need an xtra gear!!! Even the 75hp MTJ felt alot need a 6th gear after 70-75 mph
 
Silly money. Even with the whopping great discounts. Our first brand new Panda 999 (after two second-hand mark 1's) was the princely sum of £2995!

God, I feel old!

Does anyone know the technical differences of the MTJ engines 75ps vs 95ps?
Is there only a chip/CPU upgrade or there is also different turbocharger and other parts within the engine?
 
Fiat have had 75 and 95hp versions of the 1.3 Multijet engine since the good old days of the Grande Punto (the 95hp came with a 6 speed manual, so one could hope it could make its way into the Panda). Considering the added production costs of implementing different hardware for what is essentially the same engine, odds are the only difference is in software. My guess is that the software involved modifies fuel/air mixture, turbo boost, and possibly EGR valve actuation to achieve higher power with the same torque and thus meeting emissions regulations. The longevity of the higher powered versions, however, are probably a bit suspect as EGR valve replacements and turbo refurbishment seem to be the most common work done on them.
 
The 70 & 75hp versions of the Multijet use a fixed geometry turbo with wastegate.

The 85 & 95hp versions use a variable vane/geometry turbo which do away with the need of a wastegate and prove to be more efficient.
It wouldn't be a shock if the intercooler was larger to make better use of the VGT.

I'd be surprised if any shared the same injectors or the same engine management software either.

Not sure if the heads are the same, perhaps the more powerful use larger valves.

You'd think the rest would be the same, but it's possible the crank and bearings might be beefier too.

Don't think Fiat are the only ones to offer the same basic engine with different power outputs.

VW groups 1.6 TDi CR comes with either
75, 90, 102, 105, 110 or 116 PS

And their 2.0 TDi CR offers even more choices.
110, 120, 136, 140, 143, 150, 170, 177, 179, 184, 190, 239 PS

(though they all aren't offered in the same brands)

But I don't think the average customer really bothers with these output figures anymore, but are more likely to select engines on CO2 & MPG figures (however they have come about!).

It seems VW can now offer you any diesel engine size in any CO2 tax bracket!
(and if it won't fit the bracket in mind, they'll make it fit ;))
